They had a 250 BMW single. I had an R26 like that, shaft drive, but shook a lot. I upgraded to an R69, a 100 mph machine, tested on the M4 :D

A schoolfriend of mine had a Heinkel bubble car, and rolled it on to it's side when turning sharp right. He got out, heaved it upright again, and drove on. It cost him an indicator light, that's all :)

Back to steam for the bank holiday weekend! We've had a good lot of rain over the last 24 hours with more forecast, some quite impressive thunderstorms too. I understand it'll be the two 2-8-0s out to start with, seen as the safest to begin with.

When we first relaid the track we saw all these drainage ditches alongside the miniscule embankments, and some people thought we ought to clear them. Then we realised they were borrow ditches, left and right, to win material for the little...

They're running along an old sea bed - hence all the cross drains - so there is very little embankment to build, and no cuttings to use.

Probably a good idea, but we are not so logical. The recent re-decking of the warflat showed that this PWay used vehicle fell between two chairs. PWay didn't have a budget for it, but neither did C&W. Now what? It was agreed to use old sleepers...

We don't only have carriages that would benefit from cover, but also newly restored wagons, which go straight back into the open.:( Cover is also needed for a lovely horse box on the line, as well as a GWR inspection saloon. I stood on a MACAW...

Ah yes, the great GWSR carriage shed conundrum! It is being actively looked at, lots of people have different opinions and there are various conflicting constraints. For what it's worth, my own view currently is that there will always be a need...

There you have part of the problem, there is no room for an 8 coach carriage shed at Toddington, where services start. There is room both sides of the line at Winchcombe. Then, from which end do you approach it? How many roads, given that the...

We do want a carriage shed, but can't decide where and how big. Not to mention the cost ... The canopy gang could make quite a bit of it, and reduce the cost....

Repairing carriages on a contract basis is expensive. We have spent a six figure sum on 2 MK1’s which were both operating prior to repairs. In both cases we could have done even more work to them. Many MK1’s are coming to the end of their...

No that a way down the list. Westerham Branch to reinstate next. Only two level crossings needed. Mike
