Hope its true. Not had a chance to see 60532 (but my Grandad had a railtour behind her). Also I saw earlier on the RS&GT website that Rupert Drury is a Trustee for the Trust.

How does Hosking work it with his locos. 6100, 6024, 35022, 35027 and 70000 are listed as part of the Trust but his other locos such as 4464, 34046 etc aren't.

 

That figures, given how a senior member of the 6024 trust is also on the board after JH stepped in and "saved" the loco & society - makes sense to keep someone on board with a vested interest in said beast!

 

The value will be based on purchase price plus cost of bringing to current condition, less any depreciation to date.

 

Its right to be concerned with the long term interests of all of the locos under JH`s umbrella.

But for now lets just enjoy the news if true, that a certain other big LNER machine than the Flying Cash Cow is now assured a more positive future on the mainline in the short to medium term.

Excellent news indeed. With the payloads we're seeing at the moment, Class 8 power is almost a prerequisite if we're to prevent fares going outside the reach of many.

On the need for specific knowledge / experience of locomotives, this is a particularly important in the case of 60532 of course, especially as we have recently passed the 20th anniversary of the Durham disaster !

 

Has Blue Peter ever actually been painted blue ?

 

Apple green and BR dark green but not blue. Has had blue nameplates though.

 

None of the 6ft 2in Pacifics from the LNER were painted express passenger blue. This was reserved for A1, A3, A4 and A1/1 only - the 6ft 8in locomotives. As we know, only two classes of Pacific were painted blue in LNER days - A4 in garter blue, and A1/1 in prussian blue.

 

Ah, so she hasnt historically been a blue locomotive, thanks to the Learned Gentlemen above for this.
Nevertheless the (BR) colour scheme is attractive and would be Apt (with the name) - if the owners we're disposed to having her turned out this way.....

 

Only the front line express loco's wore BR blue IIRC : A4; Duchess; King and MN.

Of course - brain fade. So has FS ever carried BR blue in preservation, presumably would have been pre-double chimney and deflectors in BR days. (I'm going to wish I'd never asked this I know ....)
