I would think the chater is only a early morning event. It's a shame it can't be used if it's already in steam. Should be able to photograph 1450 in Ropley yard on Sunday.

i cant help but think that the railway have missed a trick here, after the charter, couldnt they have ran a special, preimum pre book only trip to Alton? i'm sure that the charter people would jump at the chance especially if it returned in auto mode either that or in the evening of the gala, after the last train

I take it from your post. The charter is an all day event. Which will need to be stabled in one of the stations from time to time. To allow the service train to pass.

I don't know about 'flaws' as such but general condition perhaps. I was lucky enough to have a guided tour around the workshops at Llangollen earlier this year and I'm sure I noticed a sign on one of the prairie tanks stating that it had swapped wheelsets with one of the 'new' build locos because the tank engine started out with the better wheelsets. Probably no more than the state of the tyres but still an example of one loco being restored with inferior components to assist another which is going 'main line'.

Apologies for vagueness or if I've got that completely wrong - the details didn't seem that important at the time!

does anyone have any news on the likily date of 73096's move, its now the 16th, 2 days after the provisional date expected for her removal to Carnforth, is it likily to be delayed till after the gala or will there be a deisel, coach and loco move when 5029 comes down ? and the return working will take the 5 out?

I wonder if WCRC are too busy with the activity up North and have changed their plans? 45960 has been out today on a test run, 70013 is on the CE and they have been moving the A4's and K4 around. Plus they are moving the Railmotor tomorrow night from Didcot to Southall. I would guess moving 73096 is way down their list of priority jobs at the moment. So perhaps 73096 might still be in residence at the MHR for the Gala? The 5029 move could be done by DBS. IIRC 34046 and 35028 were moved by DBS crews in March.

Didn't Bodmin's move get delayed for a while. That was moved to Alresford ready to move before the Spring Gala but was then moved back to Ropley and remained for a few more months. Maybe something similar is happening with 73096.

At this rate they might as well send 35018 to come and fetch her :) because i recon she will be done before the 5 moves , then how long will it take before the MHR say enoughs enough, we dont mind a limited amount of free storage, but can you please make arrangements to remove it.

Maybe they are waiting for 35018 to vacate the shed to fit 73096 in ?
Seems to be a lot in and around Carnfroth at the moment.

She was due to go by lorry, but because the Black 5 was delayed in getting back, she hung around for the gala - hence the much delayed move by rail.......

Hopefully lessons will have been learned when the time comes for 73096 to go the same way...... sewing as there appears to be no urgent need to move her, ie yard not too cluttered, headshunt not crowded - who knows when she'll move......... obviously the coach coming in this direction isn't needed for the gala, otherwise it would be there by now.

that does seem to be a likily reason, otherwise they might have moved her along with Bodmin if space at Carnforth wasnt an issue

There were I believe more issues at play than that, one being the "agreement".......... read into that what you will.........
