Passengers will be able to travel on a round trip to Rawtenstall in a brake van during the gala. The supplement for the journey is available at the bargain price of £5 on a first come first serve basis on the day.

Both days the train will leave Bury at 12:00 returning at 15:00.

Please note passengers will not be able to alight at Rawtenstall.

IIRC 7298 had a long term spell at bury circa 87 to 1990. It then returned for a period during 1993, leaving in early August i think just before the festival of steam during that month.
It returned to Bury under new ownership early last year as a working loco but was immediately withdrawn from service to improve its condition. The latest RM says its due to run again in early 2015. No mention of whether a mainline cert will be sought as was mooted at the start of the overhaul.
It is said to incorporate numerous parts from ex NCB Bickershaw Austerity locos. The original owner from Barry bought and scrapped a couple of them on site at the colliery in 1976.

Terrific news about 1300 coming back to the ELR, hope it can stay even longer if possible. An L&Y loco on a stretch of L&Y track - bound to be a winning combination.

One of my abiding memories of the ELR is standing on the footbridge at Rammy watching 1300 and the Jinty double head a rake of coaches, in the pouring rain, with 1300 sporting a very fetching tarp to keep the rain off the footplate.

Hope she can also make a return to the KWVR as well some time.

The date that she's there until isn't written in stone & could move either way, I can't say any more!

And why would you be asked to say more when both the owner and the hirer are prominent in this thread so can speak for themselves?

Such a shame she's about to bow out, I can see that livery being bang on!

    Maybe once it's overhauled again

Quite right, Danny. For the present, it's marvellous to see 1300 back on the ELR.

Wonderful we have two snow ploughs for the weekend, but for me the event will be 12322 piloting 13065, I remember Rammy in the late 1950's whilst at my Grandparents and saw this combination on an excursion heading for the famous Baxenden Bank. Didn't keep records in my early days but it was likely to be a pair of 26D loco's I would think. Excursions to Blackpool originating in Rochdale used the route through Bury Knowsley Street to Bolton, but the ones starting in Prestwich/Radcliffe used this route through Bury Bolton Street and then up Baxenden to Accrington onward to Preston/coast.
Just keep praying to the rain Gods to take two days off!

Could somebody list which way around each loco will be facing for the ELR Gala please?
    Many thanks.

All will face smokebox north (or will do when they get to Bury).

60007 just through Colton Junc, going to Carnforth for a bit of shut-eye, picking up 61994 and arriving tomorrow. Will both be turned at Castleton so that they also will face north.
60009 out yesterday and today on photo charters, although dull there have been some dramatic lighting conditions, hopefully giving the (paying) photographers what they want.

60007 and 61994 now safely arrived at Bury. Confirm that all locos face north and all are serviceable as advertised.

Just noticed on TFGM website that tram works are being carried out on the Piccadilly to Bury metro line 18th & 19th Sat / Sun this w/end, I intended to travel on the train from Chesterfield to Piccadilly then metro to Bury. It does say something about a replacement bus service but knowing from past experience that these are often a longer journey, can anyone with local knowledge know if a more direct journey to Bury from Piccadilly is possible. Many thanks in advance,
    Wardy

Hi, I can actually vouch for this as I commute to work at the ELR from Stoke via train and tram (sometimes BUS). The replacement bus doesn't tend to be too bad - the problem comes if you were going in the opposite direction in the morning.

You should find the bus to be fairly empty outbound and inbound. If you don't feel like getting the replacement then First buses operate service 135 from outside Wetherspoons in Piccadily Square which takes around 40 mins. If the trams were running journey time with the change is around 30 mins so 10 extra isn't too bad.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers, Rich
