If bittern is timed to go up the lickey incline in the dark. the best place for all enthusiasts is bromsgrove station. its well lit , so video and photograph will be of better quality. than being stood on the bank.

i think bromsgrove station is going to be rammed for this one.. im on the trip and cant wait to experience the sound of the climb up the bank.

That should make the line side a little less crowded for you. :)

Rail tours are run for passengers not photographers.

Kind of glad it's running up the Lickey at night ! As I won't have to endure a long wait & have to put up with the crowds ! Though, being a night ascent, the crew will have to deal with the possibility of trespassers and there flash cameras ! Hope it all goes well, and look forward to my trip behind her, in a few weeks !

In order for a daylight ascent of the Lickey at this time of year, we would have to leave Bristol about 2 hours earlier than we have planned for Saturday. That would hardly give the PASSENGERS any time in Bristol, not to mention time to service the loco.

We are going to have a similar challenge in a few weeks when we run our Pannier Rambler - after the break in Worcester, it is going to be getting dark when we climb the Lickey.

Please be aware that the BTP could well be patrolling Bromsgrove platform looking for trespassers....so please stick to the rules....not that any of the members on here would ever think of standing on the wrong side of a fence

The last Pannier Ramble went up Lickey in the dark and from a window at the back it was fabulous; noise, smoke, and the occasional 'blow back' just to give the video some extra bite....

Was ready to post a return trip coming back in daylight in October would give an unacceptably short day until I saw you've already done it, glad to see the route via Selly Oak's been accepted and look forward to doing it on the Panniers.

The Southall to Didcot movement on RT has been cancelled. Presumably it will be still running at a later time or is there a loco problem?

    (Sorry, duplicate...)

Oh dear - that doesn't sound good all round does it - I'm sure Ben will be able to give us all an update when he can. I had intended on seeing Bittern through Tilehurst on her way down to Didcot - then travel to Didcot to see her off with my youngest.

Well, it's 0830 now. If the train is running, it ought to be around Droitwich now. Has anyone seen it? What do the "gen" forums say? RTT Advanced Search hasn't turned up anything for me yet... I'm still hoping (for the sake of the passengers) that the problem is with the information systems, but it doesn't look promising at the moment

Haven't seen any reports about the tour itself yet however 5Z44 was reported on the move this morning at Greenford running very early.

    From uk-rail.

''Running this morning, 5Z44, passed me here at Greenford South jn, 0607 (38 early), then returned 0635 (23 early)''.

How it managed to run 23 early on the return is rather strange. <BJ>
