Any truth in the rumour that the Duchess is limited to 60mph?

Certainly seems that way. Don't know what the speed was on Shap, I couldn't time it, I left my calendar at home.

If your referring to RTT. The 60mph path, is the average speed the the train will run at.

Ha! We topped Shap at about 24.5mph, and lost about 15 minutes between Carnforth and Carlisle. 46233 now off, 60009 on.

No, every time we got 62-63mph the brakes were applied.

Might be in relation to the axle box work No. 46233 is requiring back at Carnforth.

Fair play and applause for the PRCLT group for managing to get the Duchess in attendance for this railtour albeit with a restriction. Could have easily said no to the job at the last minute....

That's correct Jonathan which is also the reason she will be off at Carnforth later.

I doubt it, it'll be the maximum speed.

What an awesome sight at Carlisle. I was there (aged 12) for the original event...who would have thought that 50 years later a similar scenario would unfold? IMG_5148rs.jpg

Falkland DGL for water, arrived about 13 down having recovered quite a lot after various reasons following the late departure from Carlisle.
