And fully booked as is the equivalent trip next July. Who says that the sparkle of steam on the pullmans is starting to dull?

Actually yes, at around the same time as ordinary charters had a wobble on passenger numbers, much as at present. It seems that there are still folk out there prepared to pay £500 a head for a day out to Bath by steam. That's good news as it's clearly a different market from the typical dining steam charter.

    Look at the facts...
the last few years the number of steam hauled VSOE trips has declined, as has the route variety... indeed most are the circular lunch time trip via Woking, Croydon and Balham.

I think you will find it is sold as via "Surrey Hills" not via Woking, Croydon and"Balham, gateway to the south" * :)

Just saying it as it is... or saying what I see.
A few trees outside the M25 doesnt excuse the rest of the dump it has to go through... I hope it doesnt get Signal Checked in Selhurst.. the knives and forks will be in Romania before desert.

Clan Line looked fab pulling out of Victoria this morning; had the rare pleasure of pacing her over the Cremorne Bridge.

One would market it on the Surrey Hills and not mention those bothersome places it has to run through before and afterwards wouldn't one?

Presumably the serving staff pull down the blinds until Virginian Water is reached, and then again between Betchworth and Reigate?

    ;)

They do, and the blinds have pictures of blue skies, trees, bushes, fields and gamboling lambs painted on the inside.

The train was about 12 minutes late when I saw it on the outskirts of Bath at lunchtime.
It certainly is an impressive train.

Thankfully no sign of a DBS interloper being dragged along at the rear today. <BJ>

Could it be for former DBS Driver Ken Binstead ? I seem to recall reading on here recently that he'd sadly passed away.

Yes, highly likely as he was a good friend of the MNLPS and Clan Line.
