What's the minimum cruising speed of a Vulcan? A skilled bit of flying to keep back with the two Lancs while maintaining adequate control response.

Amazing to think just how short a time gap there is in conception between the two designs!

Thanks for sharing - just need to get the Lincoln in Cosford flying now :)

I would imagine that they would all be reasonably comfortable at around 200kts.
Would love to see the Cosford Lincoln back in the air personally, but I think we can safely forget that one :(

Some elements of the display routine are flown at around 160 kts. but mostly not below 200 kts. If you look at the videos you will note she's holding a reasonably high angle of attack. This helps keep the speed down but also needs application of power to overcome the increased drag. Easy in a modern fly by wire job but not so easy with manual controls. Skilled flying all round.

Yes, that's what jumped out at me - the Vulcan almost looks like she is hanging in the air rather than gliding through it. Superb flying though - am looking forward to Shoreham (and maybe wondering about Henstridge tomorrow ...)

The Vulcan came over my house this evening, presumably on it's way home. Lovely to see, I bet it's been 20 years since I saw one in flight.

Seemed to be very low, does anyone know what the normal cruising altitude is when returning to base?

It was noticeable that the Vulcan was under power most of the time rather than gliding when it passed over me at Marham. Certainly a unique sound, 8 Merlins and 4 Olympus engines powering up directly overhead.
