Isnt 499's tender currently under construction at Ropley?? There's been quite a lot on this on the MHR's website.

Yes, i believe so, but the impression i got from the Urie society website, and I'm going back a bit now was that it was a rebuild on an original Urie underframe. The previous plan had been a rebuild using the underframe from the tender previously used with 825 (the complete 825, not the 825/841 combination now on NYMR).

did 499 arrive from barry with a tender, i thought she went to barry with a 6 wheeled tender, i can remember seeing an old urie tender frame in the road beyond the wheel drop, but that was i believe beyond repair, so the ex hampshire test rig was aquired from eastleigh is this an ex urie tender frame, or a southern built urie copy? there was a new urie tender tank made, is this to go onto 499's tender chassis or is 506 getting a new tender and her old one patched up to go behind 499.

I recall from my days on the Mid-Hants that the story was that 30449 had her bogie tender swapped for a 6 wheel LSWR just prior to withdrawal in 1964.

That LSWR tender was purchased along with U Class 31625 in 1980, and this tender was in poor condition in 1964 so after 16 years at Barry it was a wreck and was subsequently cut up in the early 1990's. Its replacement was a ex-LMS Fowler tender from a 4F that was purchased from BR after being used as a sludge carrier or such like and was planned to be used as it resembled the original Maunsell type tender. This Fowler tender was later itself discarded (without being used) and found itself converted with a new tank behind the Hunslet 50550 0-6-0 tender conversion 'Douglas'

A ex-Schools/snowplow tender was later purchased for 31625; and for those interested in such matters the other Mid-Hants U class 31806 got the 6 wheel tender off S15 30847 itself formally used by King Arthur Class 30797.

30499 was purchased along with the tender formally attached 30825(I think?) and was originally going to be restored for use with 30499, however when the ex-Hampshire DEMU test rig tender frame was located this plan was abandoned and the only parts of this tender exist such as the bogies.

This is how I remember events but as with all things human I may have my wires crossed and open to correction.

For those who would like to see an S15 with a 6-wheel tender, I believe this is the plan for 30830 (NYMR) if it ever gets restored.

I believe it is correct that 30830 will be using a six wheel 4000gal ex-schools class/snowplow conversion tender frame

The whole story of the eight converted tenders is complicated, but I think is like this:

Tender T701 (ex 30901 Winchester) was purchased by Southern Locomotives ltd for parts (axleboxes mainly) and then scrapped at Sellindge.
Tender T715 (ex 30915 Brighton) was purchased by the Bluebell and is/was a spare underframe.
Tender T723 (ex 30923 Bradfield 30933 Kings Canterbury and 30936 Cranleigh) as purchased by Southern Locomotives ltd for parts (axleboxes mainly) and then sold on to the owners of 34073 (i think?)
Tender T929 (ex 30929 Malvern) Sold to the Bluebell for use with S15 30830, then sold to and moved with the loco to NYMR
Tender T931 (ex 30931 Kings Wimbledon) Sold for use with U Class 31625 and moved to the MHR
Tender T933 (ex 30933 Kings Canterbury 30923 Bradfield) Sold for use 35010 and now at the Colne Valley railway
Tender T934 (ex 30934 St Lawrence) Sold to the Bluebell for use with U Class 31638
Tender T939 (ex 30939 Leatherhead) Sold to SSL and eventually scrapped?

For completeness of extant Schools class tenders:

Tender T725 30925 Cheltenham - Mid Hants Railway
    Tender T726 30926 Repton - NYMR
    Tender T728 30928 Stowe - Bluebell

Haven't you heard? According to this columnist in the 'Guardian', the Thomas series is sexist (and racist and a bunch of other ist's), so clearly they had to create more female trains. (Yes, yes, I know it's the 'Guardian'...)

Ok ok, so I know that often if you give the good people of National Pres 2 + 2 often they come up with 5, but…. sometimes the internet rumour mill is fun…. especially if people think that if they say something enough times eventually it will become the truth!

However I have just noticed that the MHR website loco page has now lost the Bodmin and the moguls (N & x2 U's) however the std 5 is still listed…...http://www.watercressline.co.uk/article.php/16/locomotives

    Speculate away….!

    I don't have to!............. ;)

Time will tell if I'm right........ or not! and its rather wedged in a diseasel sandwich up the head shunt.

Any way. the N & U seless, were as of 8am this morning, more or less out of the head shunt - ie by the boiler shop, and the U seful, was still in the yard - smokebox door wide open, so can only assume its under going/gone through its 12 monthly before pootling off to the Purbecks.............

Either heritage or steam railway confidently predicted when reporting the moguls move, the 5 would follow 34016 to 10A.

Please let that mean what I hope it means......

The MHR have had a few legacies left to them in recent years........

Perhaps they are aiming for an impressive line up of Standard Class locomotives after losing the SR four..........
    Speculation over for now

You have hopes & dreams.............. ;)

But don't let me be the one to burst the bubble.

Time will tell, soonish, as to what will transpire.............................

I would love to post pic's from this morning, BUT, I will abide by the railways wishes until the dust has settled............................ all I will say is the Buddleia growing out of the N's running plate is coming on great guns! o_O A little freeby for wherever she ends up for their garden! :)

Its probally because at the moment the 5 's future home has not been announced to the general public, and until it is, its going to be shown as being in store at MHR, there is a snowball in hells chance of her staying, assuming she does not change owners . the truth will be clear very soon , once the moguls have left then 73096 will be on the move to her new home., either that, or she will have a new owner.
