As far as I am aware, we are still under an Amber alert requiring diesel assistance.

If it were lifted, we would still need to negotiate a path from Tyseley to either Snow Hill or Stratford....and at this late stage, I do not think that is going to happen.

We share everyone's frustration, but it is a case of play by the rules or do not play at all.

Bit of an update: I have just popped back to Tyseley to complete a couple of things for tomorrow's Shakespeare Express.

It rained very heavily last night; we have had several torrential thunderstorms this afternoon. BUT, it has been sunny for an hour or two and the dead grass is bone dry again. I think NetRail might be right to exercise caution tomorrow.

    Sorry.

Begging, grove lying and general toadying!

Seriously though..WCR made a very good case to NR based on our previous track record with 4965 and the Shakespeare Express.

Good to hear that Ben can't make this Sunday but will be along the following week. As an aside I meant to ask how come the season is shorter this year?

That's a reassuring piece of hard evidence that Network Rail may be taking a more individual approach with steam in the summer. Perhaps they have worked out which circumstances/operations/locomotives pose the least risk and decide accordingly. Good news.

Caught yesterday's final run just up the tracks from Wilmcote, looking and sounding great un-assisted. Hope this is allowed to continue for the rest of the summer.

I was rather nice sat in my garden and listening to 4965 heading south through Shirley on both runs

Popped out to the traditional spot at Dorridge to see the return

^You guess correctly, I was the only person there. Cut it a bit fine, had to jog down the canal tow path and by the time I reached the crossing I could hear 4965 working up the hill, before appearing in the distance a minute later.

It is a surprisingly long distance when you start to walk it.

I was stewarding for the first time ever. Both return trips were well supported aided by a coach party who did the return trip from Stratford-U-A.

Do we know yet what affect, if any, the next FBU strikes will have on the Shakespeare Express on 10th and 17th Aug? Will VT be able use steam for all trains, just trains 1 & 4, or none at all? I'm having Sunday lunch with a party of friends on trains 2 & 3 on 10th Aug, so I'm hoping that Bob, Ben and co. will be able to negotiate a safe method of operation that includes a steam loco doing as much of the work as possible.
