The unrebuilding of a Merchant Navy has been mentioned alot over the years but none of them have had a serious momentum to do it. I would like to see it happen one day but from what I have read on the converisions from spam cans to rebuild reveresing that will be as hard as building one from scratch.

wouldnt be a bad idea the problem with restoring any large engine is that it is going to cost you a lot of money, 35011 and 35025 are both non starters, 35011 because of the sheer amount of work and the costs involved , and 35025 whilst further advanced, spent all the money they had removing 35025 to Selinge, than as its not a site that is in the public eye, gets forgotten about had they instead moved it to a preservation site with a higher profile, they would have stood a better chance without visitors putting pounds in the tin and a workforce that want to get it done, you are going no where.

We do have a Bulleids Pacific - Past and Present thread which could be a more general MN chat.

But should try and get this thread back to 35005 so heres a photo of her. What I love about this photo is all the different colours on her boiler. You can also see some of the bracing on the cab we have attached to help keep the cabs shape when we eventually lift it off the loco.

What is the state of the cab like? Does she need new panels or won't this be looked into until lifted off for further inspection? She always looked pristine when I was firing on the ole' girl! I have to say the Boiler by just photos alone doesn't look too bad from the outide! I know the Ash-Pan will need replacing..

To be honest my knowledge of the condition of her isnt the best. From what I can tell the cab is in good condition, well no holes and not much rest etc but we wont get a full picture until its off and we can see the whole thing. The one thing which is clear is the smokebox door will need some work with a few rust holes.

You are correct about the ash-pans they are rusted and very distorted but I heard that might of be caused by some pipe failure a few years. (As you can see below)

Hope thats of some help. Also a big thank you to everyone who has donated so that hopefully can get to work starting to restoring to beast soon.

I forgot to mention due to the size of the work force on CanPac they have introduced a voluntarily tea tax. Saving all the pennies for the loco now.

Your group is doing a great job at taking the time and not rushing. CanPac is going to be in first class order in a few years.

    Whoa, hold yer horses........... and read it C A R E F U L L Y!............

It says "First stage" funding, which means if they didn't think the project had legs, then the application would've failed........ it means you lot can get on a do things, but not (the way I see it) actually carry out the restoration....... ;)

It also mentions the restoration of the two Bullied coaches as well!! :)

Quite rightly the HLF don't hand out money easily but the MHR has a good track record of previous successful applications and a competent management team well versed in these projects.

There has been a lot of work that has gone into this application over a very long timescale.

The Bullied coaches are very exciting as we could actually make an authentic looking (albeit Small unless we borrow some from the Bluebell) Atlantic Coast Express train.

The Mid Hants does have a very good track record with lottery grants and Mr Snow seems to be the master of these sort of things.
