There is a suggestion that the object of every potter fans adulation may not have sufficient magical powers to beat the Voldermort of Network Rail's gauging department

But surely those powers of metamorphosis will see it gain 9 inches in wheel diameter and a middle cylinder while retaining its characteristic livery to fool those pesky measurement bods .....

Alton Hall? Named after Hampshire's best-connected railway town? ;-)

Times now up on UKSteam & RTT - it's a bit close for NR to pull the plug now - one hopes... However, she's done Carnforth-York several times before - has there been any recent track maintenance done which might jeopardise the trip?

Very unfair of NR to prevent RTC having chance to advise customers of a possible change to the advertised product.

15 of us booked on it, but still awaiting my tickets (don't worry, phonecall to RYTC in hand).

Dissapointed to see 5972 no longer has a go at Gigglewick bank, not many other decent climbs is there on the planned route?

5972 was dragged from York-Carnforth the other week so no problems there. And the last time it went from Carnforth to York was last September so technically there shouldn't be any problem there either.

Although not a continuous 1:100 like the couple of miles of Giggleswich, on the outward section, the approx 10 miles from Hornby to Clapham varies from 1:180 to 1:100 with very little respite, so 5972 is going to be working pretty hard all the way.

Remarkable that it should remain in doubt less than 24 hours before a train published for several months. One would expect there to have been some deadline for a gauging decision if that is the issue. RTC were confident enough to add a repeat next month.

I should think the climb from Settle Junction to Longpreston would also present quite a challenge hence the need for a rest at Hellifield ;)

Going back to the misspelling thing, It's slightly interesting me that she'll be going through Woodlesford Station, a mile or so away from an 'Oulton' Hall.

Footage of 5972 making easy work of the climb out of Carnforth crossing New England Viaduct, Capernwray then flying past Cononley doing an easy 60mph.
