Cheers, seems I'm not in with much luck for much of the journey at all then!

My train arrives from Norwich with 21 minutes to get to the MNR. But my whole journey is seemingly vastly increased due to engineering works at Colchester with a 1hr wait there and another 53 minutes waiting at Norwich. On the way back is the heavily annoying part as I would arrive back into Norwich at xx:13, the train to Colchester for London leaves at xx:13.... very helpful...!

And in the end I didn't get to go. Woke up this morning, got to colchester to then find out there was yet more engineering works (this time delayed) which meant a bus service to Ipswich, I couldn't be told when trains from Ipswich were so thought stuff it and went back home. To sum it up politely, rather cheesed off....

An excellent event, and well worth my first visit to the MNR. Clearly the line cannot boast the best of facilities outside of Dereham, but the views are better than I expected and we got to hear big engines working fairly hard. The timetable appeared a tad tight, and there was a bit of late running, but we also had some great running (particularly a roaring run from Thuxton to Dereham behind 48151 which was particularly spirited). Well done to the MNR for putting on such an attractive event.

Thanks for all the great comments and superb pictures and videos. It was truly a fantastic weekend to have had a hand in organising.

If you liked what you saw, please come back and visit us at the end of the month for our LNER gala with possibly FIVE engines in steam.

    James, MNR.

Thank you James for a very well run gala. It was my first visit to your railway but most enjoyable, even though it involved a 540 mile round trip .

Made the 3 1/2 hour trip across from Telford on Saturday thanks to a kind friend. Amazing the difference lack of motorway makes! Anyway, just to add to the comments, superb gala, all locos driven enthusiastically. Well worth the trip, so thanks to all the organisers and staff .

Lovely first visit to MNR for me on Sunday, lovely weather, a bit sun burnt now though. Had some lovely runs behind the Scot.

What time did the cavalcade leave Dereham? I called in at 07.30 on Monday and it had already gone.
