Not really an LNER fanatic beyond whatever Bulleid was involved in (which is difficult to pin down beyond carriages, A4 valances and testing of the P2), so wasn't entirely sure. However, whatever it will be, it will probably feature interchangable parts with another loco class to keep future options open, even if not the boiler. However, whilst I understand from various sources that there is an intention to do something smaller, let them finish the P2 first...

The A1SLT have done the A1 so why not an A2 (City of.......)?

On current form a Scottish P2 named Prince of Wales, so an A2 could be a new

Given the willingness to make pragmatic 'improvements' to less than ideal designs you can see that a tightly put together rollerbearing fitted K3 would work

The Tank engine to me is the most sensible/ least attractive of the three but im disappointed that the Thompson L1 hasnt figured as this was a handsome powerful engine with a good boiler with its problems readily solved by stronger frames bigger and better axleboxes

But the V4 is the prettiest pocket battleship youll ever see Class 5 + Performance with Class 4 route availability...

See we're taliking names already my favourite would still be T'orram Beag (Wee Norman)
although 'William Cook' or 'Duchess of Cornwall' is probably more likely

That's because a new build project to construct one is already making great strides. Oh, hang on a minute ...

Gee Tom youre right, that must be why they decided not to consider a B17, a Claud, A J30 something , a P2. oh, hang on a minute...

I could suggest, based on this years form for Tornado, a V1/V3 tank would be a more practical prospect.

A K3 on the Great Central would be very nice and historically appropriate... if the A1SLT don't, someone else should...

Would it not be cheaper to find somebody on this planet who can manufacture a new Monobloc cylinder casting for 60800 & return that loco to steam ?

There you go Tom, thats why they arent doing a j50

    So about resurrecting the V2
'Preserve the monoblock and produce a new 3 cylinder solution( very similar to the P2)
    Outlay including an overhaul £ 300 -350k ? Return.... Lease for 10 years ? assets - none
    or
    A new smaller loco
Outlay £ 2.5 Million Return - Indefinite use - Assets - doesnt depreciate much...

Why oh why don't they just let Hornby do it.. these constant kiddie Facebook projects are getting in the way of serious model railway companies ideas :)

Lima (of all companies) did a J50 and a 94xx.. neither of which has been modelled since..

I'm planning a rebuild, putting a repainted J50 on a Bachmann Jinty Chassis, and my 94xx on a Bachmann Pannier chassis.

meanwhile back to A1ST's next plan..

With the new poly patterns a 'monobloc' cylinder casting is perhaps now feasible. But still the Hush Hush W1 gets my vote.

An improved V4 would be very special, I'd love a late D16/3 with the larger piston valves and beefed up frames (though my heart says an original GER S46 as Claud won the Paris Gold Medal).

And if they really wanted to make sure that they were at the top of the UK preserved steam TE tables, a U1.

Lima did. Hornby now have the tools, but so far haven't reintroduced any of Lima's British steam outline models.
