As I understand it, the main problem with the MAN engines (bearing in mind they had been successfully used with Voith transmissions in Germany) was that -
    a) the drawings had to be converted from Metric to Imperial to allow manufacture using the Imperial machine tools in use in Glasgow - thus giving rise to errors in limits and fits.
    and
    b) the material specifications on the MAN drawings had to be converted to 'UK equivalents' as steel grades, casting specs etc were not directly compatible.
This only affected the engines built under license in Glasgow, engines built in Germany and imported were obviously 'true' MAN.
This 'bastardisation' of the designs is also true for the Voith units (I have one of each, a German built and a Glasgow built L24v) but means that sadly few/no parts are directly intechangeable between German and Glasgow built power units or transmissions.

D63xx newbuild group has been formed on facebook. I must say I'm surprised by how much interest its attracted. Its got some big name in diesel preservation involved too. I for one hope they succeed.

How do you find it? Done a search on F/B using various criteria, but nothing is found.

David (Project22) - your group is currently locked down so no one can actually view it without joining.
There are many people who do not like Facebook and will not join it - you are therefore cutting off their potential membership/donations.

You may wish to reconsider the settings on your Facebook page, or better still, set up a 'conventional' website so people can get some info about your project.

    Good luck

    Keith

Get an old class 37, elongate the noses, get the wheels from Sentinel 610, make a pair of bogies and replace the 12CSVT with 4 class 14 engines and you have 10100! Simples!
