Well no-one took me up on my offer so I bit the bullet and did it myself...more about ptoential than quality of photos featured

    Alton station

The mainline interchange station, arguably the most important for incoming traffic, not brilliant for photo ops but there are some to be had.

View from the country end of the platform

Looking at the BR platforms from a passing train

    A view of the yard

    An engine in the loop

A train passing another outside the station

    Medstead and Four Marks station

A classic Southern Railway country station

View from the bridge looking toward Alton

View down the hill from down platform

    Ropley station

The main station on the line for terminating trains at galas and the engine sheds and yard

View toward Alton from up platform

View toward Alton from down platform

View toward Alresford from foot bridge

Ropley station picnic area and yard

    Unusual photographic opportunities at Ropley

View from hill looking toward Alton

View from hill looking toward Alresford

    View from hill toward yard

    View within yard

    View from yard toward Alton

View from path south of Ropley looking toward Ropley

    Alresford station

The country terminus station with accompanying town

View from up platform toward Ropley

View from up platform toward Winchester

View from down platform toward Winchester

Any more submissions (particularly inter-station) greaty appreciated.

Probably a bit late now the galas over, but a few locations that I use.

Old A31 roadbridge just east of Alresford. Follow the main road towards Ropley from Alresford Stn and the road goes under the railway (I think there's a footpath from the station too). As you come under the railway there's a field on the right. Good shots of trains approaching the distant signal from Ropley, you can also get shots (albeit a bit tight) of departures from Alresford.

Northside Lane There are various spots around Northside Lane, if you continue along the road from Alresford towards Ropely, before you reach the rounabout on the A31, Northside Lane is on the left hand side. A footpath takes you to a crossing, there are also various shots from the fields either side of the line depending on the time of day.

    A31 East of Ropley

As you come out of Ropley on the A31 just before the dual carriageway there are 2 fields on the left, one either side of a road under the railway, this give loads of vantage points. You can also continue along the dual carriagway and shoot from the top of the fields.

There are quite a few other spots, please PM if you want more! But these are probably the best and easiest to access.

Have a look on Google Street view for the first, for the second a combination of Streetmap.co.uk, Google map satellite, and street view.

Post codes for the middle of nowhere aren't really an option. Using a map plus scouting around the area is a much better option. It really is a case of doing your own research and linking what others have said with a map.
Here's a few spots you may wish to try.
