    From what I've seen, the term snack barely existed in the 19th and early 20th century, the only difference between a meal and a "light bite" seems to have lain in the number of courses! It wasn't till the advent of buffet cars in the 30s that snack food really took off and the most notable of these, the Gresley buffet cars, were most certainly built with turnover given priority over comfort!

    I was using a modern term :) The Southern Belle (steam-hauled forerunner of the Brighton Belle) was 65 minutes start to stop - not much time for a multi-course extravaganza! The other Southern Railway Pullman services were a bit longer, but if you have Sunday Lunch on the Bluebell, our Golden Arrow is still rather longer than the original, albeit also somewhat slower!

    The MHR Pullmans don't have proper Pullman armchairs though (assuming they retain the seating they were withdrawn with), they're more like mk 2 seats
