Yes - there's not a lot of detail on the route and I'll bow to local knowledge but I think the route is through Coatbridge Central, right at Coatbridge Junc, Rutherglen East Junc, left at Larkfield Junc, then Muirhouse South Junc and on to Barrhead. Interesting.

I think these did not run because the WSR were unable to provide paths at acceptable times, and the dates clashed with other events like Thomas weekend and the Beer Festival (Minehead is very busy on the latter date and an extra 500 passengers would be beyond capacity!). However, 24th May is a yellow timetable day, and again, I don't see any available paths unless trains are cancelled or the timetable is completely re-written for the day, which would not be popular with the WSR's customers.

Just for devilment I tried to find a path in the yellow timetable based on RTC published arival at BL at 13.15. Section times are from yellow timetable

    BL a 13.15 d 13.25 / CH a 13.39 d 13.41 / SR 13.49 / WN a 14.00 (waits for up DMU) d 14.05 / DD 14.09 / WT 14.14 / WD 14.22 / |BA a 14.29 (waits for up steam at 14.39) d 14 42 / DR 14.49 / MD 15.01

I will work on the up. Problem is ther is little recovery if train is late ex NR

Did you use the 2014 TT as published on the WSR website? This year the up DMU terminates at WN and returns to MD at 1415, so there is then no path available from WN to MD until about 1605!

Didn't the WSR operate a specially adjusted timetable last year to accommodate the VT Whistling Ghost tour? IIRC, a couple of their regular trains were re-timed to make a path for the special. It probably doesn't need much more than +/- 10 mins here and there.

As pointed out above all available paths are in use WN to MD, so they would have to remove one of the service trains to create a path. The easiest amendment would be to run the DMU through to Bishops Lydeard. I believe last year there was a path for a charter on certain Saturdays.

I did use the 2014 timetable from the website. The special and DMU pass at Wiliton. the special departs as soon as token can be got through machine. I have allowed 4 mins but may be quicker. The special arrives at Watcher by 14.14, I think its a token station, which might just impinge on DMU leaving on time at 14.15 by a minute or so. DMU follows special block for block.Special arives Blue Anchor at 14.29. Assuming it can fit in loop train out of section can be given and the DMU follows to BA and waits at DN home. Up steam arives 14.39 and departure of the special is asap token goes through machine. as soon as special in section DMU can be admitted for a double cross with the steam. The DMU may be delayed leaving. Is Dunster a token station? - cant find signalling info on website. Worse case scenario is DMU delayed 20 mins waiting for special to arrive at MD.

Bit back of a fag packet and signalling from memory as no info available

The next token station in the Down direction from Williton is Blue Anchor, where the special would cross the up steam service, so the DMU would be stuck at Williton, and would have to be shunted out of the way because that Up steam service has to cross a Down steam service at Williton. The alternative would be to hold the Up steam at Blue Anchor for the DMU, but that would mean all services then being 25 - 30 minutes late for the rest of the day, and would possibly delay the tour's departure. There is no crossing point at Dunster, although a non-passenger train can be locked into the sidings here, but that would be no help in this case.

Ian - from your coments and the timetable it apears there are only 4 token sectiond BL to MD. I can apreciate the inflexibility this creates for accepting specials. Someone somewhere must have the answer given that the train is advertised

You are correct about the token sections Dave, but in recent years tours have been advertised before the operators have checked whether the WSR can accept them. The first thing the WSR knew about them was when they read the advertisements!

The standard WSR timetable will almost certainly be adjusted to accommodate this special. Also hopefully it will get a 75mph path (rather than 60mph) on the mainline so that it can leave Minehead at a sensible time.

Oh dear. Do they know how to spell proof reader? Mind you, what you describe sounds like a printing not composition issue.

Mine OK from the correct pages in the correct order point, so duplicated pages are a printers error.

I see that the times for "The Esk Valley"on March 22 are now on RTT. On the outward we are shown to go through Darlington and reverse at North Rd instead of taking the direct route via Yarm(which we are shown to use on the retun). Any offers as to why ?

Gauging through Yarm? Engineering? However, it looks as though we'll be going through Yarm on the return, so only an issue in one direction.

The Buxton Spa has changed routes aswell. Now departing Ealing Broadway vice Euston, and now using the MML with stops at St Albans, Bedford and Kettering for passengers. No longer use the former Varsity line.
