The IOWSR has announced its intention to fully reinstate the old telegraph pole route over its entire length. They were once a common sight alongside railways, its return will enhance the authenticity of the line side.

Excellent. I think that, apart from encroaching vegetation, telegraph poles and ash ballast(or lack of them) are the biggest difference between today and yesterday.

I do hope it's going to be a working pole route, like the one on the K&ESR. No underground cables for us!

I'm delighted by that new!! I have always deplored the disparition of poles route, particularly on the Bluebell and the GCR!
    regards

But just wait for the objections on the grounds of visual intrusion in the countryside!

You can't compare creosoted wood telegraph poles with the visual impact of steel pylons or wind farms.
It should also help provide authenticity for film producers wishing to recreate railway images from a bygone age.

I am told that, yes! indeed it will be a working poll route, not sure how many wires will adorn the additional poles. Havenstreet to Wootton still has most of its route so have a good start. We are very lucky in that we have a very active trackside clearance gang who keep our track side areas pristine, the pole route will help to enhance the heritage appearance.

Those who have worked on KESR will be familiar with the linesmans ladder and the request drop me off at pole x.

Good news, another positive step for the IoW. Now all you need to do is find a few more 02's from somewhere...!

I hope this is not an attempt to encourage pole spotting :

Linesider : Excuse me but I seem to have missed out poles no 32 and 47 - any idea where they are ?

Railway Staff : Sorry sir but 32 has gone for re-tarring and 47 has been removed to be reinforced at the base due to beaver attack !

    Whatever next ? ;)

And a Merry Christmas to All :)

Will you be adhering to the Overhead wire transposition diagrams?
