With 7820's chassis being largely complete and her boiler being near to completion we are looking forward to a very busy winter reassembling the engine in readiness for the 2014 season. You can follow progress via these two methods at present, both are updated regularly:

Good to see the progress, I've always liked the Manors.
    Two questions about tenders.
Can you give any history on the Churchward tender at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway. I see from facebook it has a new tank and will be running with Dinmore. Have DML always owned it and what is its number?
Collett tender number 2928 which is being rebuilt with a 3500 gallon tank. Was this the tender that came with the 2-8-0 number 3845?

    Thanks

    Justin

    Thanks for the interest shown;

The tender from the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway is being hired by DMLL allowing us to concentrate our volunteer resources on completing 7820 herself before then reverting to completing tender T2928. This tender was initially paired with 3850 when purchased from Barry.

Early 2014 is the aim, posted on the Facebook page today is a picture of a fully tubed boiler, hydraulic testing likely to commence towards the end of next week. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...12555846.31792.137072999791864&type=1&theater

The Lincs wolds tender belongs to 3855 and aside from on going parts acquisition and manufacture is the first major milestone of its restoration to be completed.

Thanks Mike and 3855 for the answers.

Mike one last question. Do DMLL own the Collett 4000 gallon tender that was with 3845 when it was at the Swindon & Cricklade?

All the best from me too. I'm currently about 45 minutes from the GWSR, but a move could be in the offing next year, so I hope 7820 will be up and running before I up sticks from this part of the world.

While I'm at it, your other working loco is a good'un. Was briefly at the WSR last Tuesday in the sunshine. I won't post my picture because (i) I can't as I use film and my picture is in the camera and (ii) 3850 at Castle Hill is probably no great deal as it's such a popular spot. Still, I appreciated it - she looked and sounded good.

(If by any chance I'm wrong and you would like a b&w image of 3850 at this classic location, please send me a PM, and if you're preared to wait about 6 months for me to use the film up(!!), I'll happily send you a copy)

Justin, we do indeed own the tender that was paired with 3845 whilst at the Swindon and Cricklade, currently 'in store'.

More than happy to receive a pic of our trusty old steed, 3850, John, much appreciated. Thank you for the kind comments, she has proved to be a reliable and, contrary to popular belief, very economical engine, glad you enjoyed seeing her at work.

Will do, Mike. At the speed I get through a film, unless we have exceptionally good weather over the next 3-4 months, you might even find a picture of 7820 in its new home thrown in for good measure!

Today has seen the successful steam test carried out on 7820's boiler under the watchful eye of Bob Garnett, inspector for Royal Sun Alliance at Riley & Son, Bury.

Great to see that the recently completed new batch of GWR drawhooks, after a long and 'interesting' project by Dinmore Manor Locomotive Ltd. have arrived with our customers, who is going to be first to fit one?

    P1010003_49 (Small).jpg

Recently the boiler arrived at Tyseley Locomotive Works, the smokebox fitted, and the 'new' chimney, to the BR pattern believed to be ex 7819 'Hinton Manor' was also fitted for the first time and will give 7820 a somewhat different look to her last stint in traffic. A further out of frames steam test was carried out on Saturday the 16th of November and our volunteers enjoyed jacket potatoes with trimmings cooked during the course of the day in our new quarter million pound oven at lunchtime....!

Was any consideration giving to including an over-rider? I know it is not consistent with a GWR drawhook but having experienced screw couplings coming uncoupled twice in my life (once on a GWR drawhook) I'm a big believer in them.

I'm intrigued! - how would a coupling ride up the inside shape of the hook? (assuming of course the hook shape was within specification and the coupling was screwed up the correct amount).
Have never heard of that happening before.
