Out and back via Wimbledon! I hope this isn't a one-off. It would be great if regular paths from Waterloo could be found fro Steam that don't involve going all round the houses (i.e., the Windsor Lines). While our friend Kent Yeti will point out how in 1967 some trains made it to Basingstoke in 40 minutes from Waterloo, I still think that 57 minutes Waterloo-Fleet is a great inprovement on one or two steam trains I have been on where the Windsor Lines Crawl have resulted in it taking 90 minutes (or more!) to get as far as Woking.

Are you sure about that? My understanding was that Steam Dreams still have the SRPS set on hire until the end of this year.[/quote]

Could well be - I thought it had been returned but there is comment elsewhere in the internet that there is no SRPS tour to the Lincoln Christmas Fayre this year, so that is quite possible. I was making an assumption on Riveria.

It would certainly ease the pain of getting anywhere out of London to the south west if Waterloo became more available although until they sort out the old Eurostar terminal, platform space will remain a problem. However I notice that the returning SD trip from Shrewsbury arrives at Platform 19 on the 23rd and there is a separate path bringing in a DL to draw out the stock. It was always the case that a signalling glitch meant that you couldn't attach anything if a train was already in there. Has maybe NR sorted that out at last? Welcome news if true.

As for the loco. Of course, swop a WC loco for a WC loco. So it's a '5'

Real Time Trains has 17.58 at Clapham Junction and 18.03 at Wimbledon, with no intermediate timings. Departure is from Platform 19 at Waterloo, which is normally used for Windsor Line trains, but Platform 9 is shown for Clapham Junction, so it looks like it will go via Earlsfield rather than the Putney Loop, and will flip over from the Windsor Line tracks at Queentstown Road.

I think glide, switch or manover might be better than flip which has other connotations

Don't be surprised, the RTC website had the tour on the 9th as visiting Uckfield first when the timings next to it clearly showed Sheffield Park first!

Actually around 43 minutes was accepted as being the fastest, net about 41 minutes. I think Kent Yeti is hibernating

    Thanks Nigel.

Which makes sense, since it made it easier to path the train.

If 67 is fixed, that's great.

Your comment about "ONLY PHOTOGRAPHERS" is odd. Steam railway enthusiasts are not one dimensional. Many take photographs and travel on tours and work hard in many ways to keep steam alive. When you upset photographers, you will also be upsetting some of your potential future clients. I have travelled on your trains and I have had some very enjoyable experiences. I have also had some that left much to be desired not necessarily due to circumstances under the control of RTC. I have not booked on some advertised tours that looked inviting because it seemed to me that the prospectus was most unlikely to be fulfilled. Nearly always my judgement was correct but at least twice I missed tours that I would have enjoyed. That would not have happened if I had more trust in the information that RTC provide initially and if RTC updated locomotive information and route changes promptly and openly. You might regard the loss of two premier class passengers as insignificant but I am not alone in my opinions about RTC publicity.
