To rebuild Stockton Brook station, I would have thought that the space for the original single platform would still be visible beside the existing single track? The platform itself has presumably gone and would need replacing, with a new ramp down from road level in place of a staircase for disabled access, and a new shelter, preferably in the style of the old one but perhaps enclosed to the keep the wind out.

I assume that only a single track will be relaid from Leekbrook to Leek initially, as that is all that will be needed for the CVR's trains? How will the new junction layout be signalled, as at present the junction has no signalling, but that must surely change once all 4 lines from it are back in use? Will the surviving signal box be used again, now that its restoration has been agreed?

That reminds me of of the nineties, when I used to carry my Fileyfax everywhere.

Yes, I wonder if the junction will be signalled so that cheddleton-cauldon can be operated without interfering with stoke-leek routes. Would be an interesting sight to have trains coming together and 'peeling away' from each other!

The only station of which nothing remains is Bucknall. All others the platforms at least exist in some form of another beneath the vegetation. Stockton Brook always was a ramp too, with a ramp behind the booking office for 'out of hours' passengers.

Just because there is no semaphores at LBJ though, does not mean there is no signalling. There is sufficient signalling for what we run, though agreed it will need developing in the long term.

It already is... Unless you mean parallel running for the 50yards the 2 lines are part of one another at present?

I was under the impression that Stoke to Cauldon was one route (for freight) and the CVR would use the other route Chedd to Leek (passenger) so there could never be anything resembling parallel running like they used to do in the Isle of Man. There is no signalling at Leekbrook at the moment because the points are all clipped and scotched.

You can't do parallel running with a Stoke-Cauldon train and Chedd-Leek train as they would both need to use the crossover. But depending upon the final setup that eventually gets installed it may be possible to have a Chedd-Cauldon and Stoke-Leek train run parallel though as mentioned above it would only be for 50 yards ish.

The points are clipped and scotched because the FPL are not fully connected up. This does not mean there is no signalling though! Not having my diagram to hand I can't remember all the Signal numbers, but there is definitely 3 on the approach to LBJ off the Cauldon branch and at least 5 on the runround loop in various positions. Not extensive but it covers what we need them to at present.

I noticed on the presentation diagram in the Foxlowe that a proposed new down line was shown disappearing off the bottom of the plan and DK was unable to tell me where that would go to to so I gather from what you say that this must continue round the junction curve onto what would have been the check railed down Stoke branch to connect with the still existent loop points.

LBJ South final configuration is still to be decided. I asked the same question and was told this 'new line' would at least form a loop on the North/South Chord, and will connect to one of Chedd / Stoke lines or even both but at present they haven't decided what option to use.

Personally I'd like to see it DT all the way to the existing loop, and have DT on Leek Brook (Stoke) to as it used to be going into a Single line just beyond LBJ. Similar to how it was in the 80s but with the North/South Loop extended onto the current CVR. Have to wait and see what happens though!

On the plan at the the presentation, the points were shown to be south of the sewage works crossing which would shorten that loop considerably if 11s were to be put back as they were. If the triangle were to be reinstated that could be used for running round trains from either Stoke or Churnet Valley south without the need for quite as much expensive point work and the existing loop (up side) at the concrete platform could be recovered.

There always has to be one though.
"But Colin Agar, of Lady Meadows Farm, Bradnop, said he had some concerns over the Leekbrook to Cauldon line which has already been reopened by MCR with heritage trains travelling from Froghall to Cauldon.
The 57-year-old said: “Part of the line goes through our farm and would run around 100 metres from our house.
We like the heritage trains that run at the moment but I would prefer not to have a couple of freight trains rumbling past.”
The line has been there longer than he has been at the farm, it goes through his land, saying it goes through the farm sounds like between the buildings......
    https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=st...h&hnear=Bradnop+ST13+7EZ,+United+Kingdom&z=16
What he doesn't say is that he and his wife run an arts and crafts business at the farm which attracts quite a few visitors, all of whom would have to take extreme care at the level crossing, which as you can see from the map has been introduced to save having to maintain the bridge.

All heritage railways should have a care about their effect on residents. Not everyone shares our obsessions and someone who has a degree of unease should not be made an outright enemy through want of a touch of thought. This extends to such things as avoiding gratuitous smoke and also our old "friend" the linear scrap heap.

God almighty I usually enjoy this thread and I wish the MCR nothing but success but the thinnest substance in the universe is the skin of some preservationists who see everything as some kind of criticism or insult. For the benefit of all stop reacting as though the whole world is out to find some weakness in your plan and then belittle you for it - because it is pretty obvious to any neutral reading this that they aren't. If someone is wrong or misinformed just correct them , that is the normal and healthy response. Don't take it personally.

Suffice to say this was the tip of a large iceberg. If you followed CVR/MCR on Facebook etc you'd realise there's a hardcore of 'knockers' who delight in belittling all we do, and casting aspersions on the project(s) at every opportunity. So Clog and Knocker's post had all the appearances of another such attack, possibly by one of our previous detractors under another pseudonym, and after as hard day's graft on the line, I really wasn't impressed by his post which insinuated we are pretty stupid.. Anyway, moving on ....

  17. In fairness, domeyhead, users here tried that normal and healthy response whan you had a completely unnecessary (and totally biased) minor meltdown on this forum about the holiday cottages at Ropley. Photographic evidence proved that there was absolutely nothing for you to get upset about, yet you didn't take kindly at all to being 'corrected'. Instead you lowered yourself to the level of hurling insults.

Yet you lecture others on not taking things personally? The words pot, kettle and black spring to mind.

We've tried that, and got our posts deleted!

There are a number of individuals with a chip on their shoulder with regards to this project, and they will take any opportunity they can to knock the whole thing. Some of them have made attempts on here, hence the Mods were forced to clear about 10pages worth of posts. As sheff says, Clog&Knocker post seemed like another such instance. To then find out it was a wild guess was slightly frustrating to say the least. OK you feel it was over the top, but when there are individuals looking for anything they can find to take a pop at us, such postings do us no favours.

Not so much a wild guess, I would say more of an observation: Stockton Brook tunnel has been reduced considerably in height at some point in time.
