Meon Valley Railway Restoration

Discussion in 'Heritage Railways & Centres in the UK' started by stephenvane, Jun 4, 2013.

Slightly different market, but exactly the same tried-and-trusted formula of mistakes:

    https://www.facebook.com/quicksnaprailtours?hc_location=stream

    1. Have dream.
    2. Start spouting off in public before thinking it through.
    3. Get upset, accuse people who aren't going "Hurrah" of 'abuse' and stomp off in a huff.

I wonder what or who will be the next one? Oh, hang on, here it is... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lyca-Railtours/540092579415290

Seems the guy has severe dyslexia at the very least or it's a carefully crafted wind up.

That did cross my mind when one or two contributors to this thread asked why they shouldn't be allowed to start their own scheme. I think that, for some people, joining an existing scheme, putting up with what other people have already decided, and having to work your way up the ladder is not acceptable.

Now, I've got this scheme to build a replica Leader which I'm going to run on the Bentley to Bordon branch. I'm just off to set up a website. See you all later ;-)

I'm not sure about the leader (actually I am sure .... I'm with you a full size one is a barmy idea) the Bordon to Bentley branch though is not so barmy. With Bordon becoming a "Green Town" or Eco Village or some such when the REME leave town soon, there was talk of re-instating the branch. I think that the council realised how expensive that would be, but if you had a serious proposal that included commuters, I think that HCC would give you a hearing.

Not much to talk about on it then since the MVR seems to have disappeared of the face of the earth.

  9. I had a brief look at that page and the only real understanding I got of it was being left with the overwhelming feeling that some people must have far too much time on their hands these days...

I see this has appeared on Facebook,

"I created the Lyca Railtours page only as a joke, but let me tell you this, there is a line between a pisstake AND TELLING AN INNOCENT YOUNG TRAINSPOTTER THAT THEY SHOULD OF BEEN ABORTED/HAD BRAIN DAMAGE ETC."

This further backs up my, and others, reasoning for staying clear of the social media sites.
The young lad who started the Quicksnap idea was maybe very naive but the abuse flung at him was totally unwarranted.
OK we also have a go at some of the wild ideas that crop up here, but virtually all the comments, whilst not what the OP would want to hear, are based on what has gone before. Hopefully we will never get to the hurtful abuse as quoted above.

I note that this preservation attempt has made the pages of the latest copy of Steam Railway. Perhaps SR would like to interview the enthusiasts concerned and pose a few questions for an article on the pros and cons of attempting to build a 'new' railway so late in the day...?

I noticed a group for restoring the MVR is popping up on Facebook again - but on second look, it was created by a certain chap trying to restore the S&D, who believes that in a few years' time when none of us can afford to run cars any more, every town will either need a railway or will shrink to medieval size. He describes the MVR's reopening as "inevitable".

sad to say rural rail has had it's day and this sort of thing will never happen. It's obvious that a rural bus is going to be cheaper than a rural train whatever may happen regarding cars.

Good to see the route being cleared and something being done about the mud. Should make my bike rides along there more enjoyable.

Now if only they would install a static buffet car at West Meon station. I'm sure it would do good business with all the walkers and cyclists.
