With all the talk about various new builds & conversions I have just found this site which may be of interest. Looks like it puts everything "under one roof".
Haven't had chance to go through it all yet though.

I am coming to the conclusion that a number of these new builds could help each other out, my reason for saying this is that while looking at building new S&DJR type locos I have noticed that a number of 4-4-0 Tender locos have similar dimensions, such as wheel and cylinder block sizes to start with. Because I am only looking at loco types which could have and also did run over the S&DJR, this is largely down to either Midland and Southern designs SR L1, LMS 2P, LSWR S11, LSWR L11, then we have the 0-6-0 LSWR 700 class, LSWR395, the Ilfracombe goods class, Midland Johnson 0-6-0, Midland 3835 class 3F and the Fowler 4F also I am looking at whether there is much in common between the LMS Fowler 2-6-4T and the SR W class, these classes I am looking at are for the Heritage railways and not for the main line, two other locos which will be looked at, are the LSWR T1 and LSWR A12, once again, both small locos but idea for heritage railway's.

Should any one feel I have missed out a loco type which may benefit from the above brief, may be you would care to let me know.

We discussed this at some length on one of the other new build threads in connection with the similarities between LSWR M7, 700 goods and K10 (0-4-4T, 0-6-0 and 4-4-0 variants with significant shared parts). So building one would make building another significantly cheaper on account of shared patterns (and, in the above case, you'd also help sustain the existing M7). There are probably other similar families of Victorian / Edwardian 0-4-4T / 0-6-0 / small 4-4-0 from other railway companies, not to mention the marked family resemblances between Drummond locos (Peter and Dugald) built for both Scottish and southern companies.

All of which makes taking something from there an attractive place to look, but of course, it is really attractive for the "second mover", able to capitalise on work done by the pioneer. Somebody has to be first, and that group will be doing everything from scratch, so not much financial advantage in being first!

Yeah, I think you should build all of those. That's 13 new build pojects, all by yourself. Were you also thinking of rebuilding the S&D to run them on? When were you thinking of having them finished by? 2015? No problem. Good luck!

Hi Tony, I wish I could win the lottery and then it would be no problem. There is a ground swell of interest in all matters of the S&DR at present and it is hoped that over the coming months we shall see a coming together for the benefits for the whole S&D project.

A recent poll on an online forum for S&D members indicated that there is support to purchase a 3F 'Jinty' if we can find one for sale and or to build a new 2P 4-4-0, both typical S&D locos. As for the other types I mentioned it was that I found a number of items very similar or identical to the types that would be supported by S&D group members.

Some items have been planned to be made in the lost wax process using large chunks of polystyrene for the core mould or even using 3D CAD to make a disposal item.

At present I am just gathering information about all the above with no guarantee of any one of them getting build, but if some one came along one day with a bucket or two full of money and said I want this built we could say yes OK lets do it.
