I think that's the most likely scenario - and quite authentic too.

Was the damage caused by a yellow high visibility jacket being waved out of the cab?

UKS now updated showing 44932+45231. Whilst it's rather disappointing that it's no longer 46115+45699, at least it's still a double headed steam :) One day I'll get to see Galatea, maybe?

Good that it's still double headed. Personally, I would be rather upset to have booked expecting two particular engines and then ended up with two that are entirely different. It seems to be the case that West Coast turns out whatever they have at the time which, to be fair is no different from a conventional steam depot with a choice of engines. That's their perrogative I guess but it really is turning into a bit of a lottery with them at present.

Given that practice, I hope that, for example, the RTC is confident about their advertised CME Galatea trip in the autumn on which I will book...for the locomotive.

Some speeds: 23mph on climb to Hellifield, 51mph through Settle, 43mph before braking for Ribblehead speed limit, 40mph exiting Blea Moor tunnel. Cracking trip Black 5's not disappointing! Now enjoying pint and food in Carlisle :)
