The recently arrived L&Y locomotive 1300 carrying its BR number and livery as 52322 successfully ran three Wirksworth to Duffield services both Saturday and Sunday last weekend and will see service on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays until the end of August. It looks just the part with 4 maroon coaches. There is just one exception for the Multiple Memories Weekend of 10 and 11 August.

We reviewed a very busy week for the Railway today with services now running both at the weekends, Tuesdays and Thursdays with a Share Holders Day last Wednesday and declared that we are largely getting it right! 52322 will be in operation again this weekend and it will be good to host the Loughborough Standard Loco Owners Group in the Royal Saloon tomorrow - after all they do own it!

It sharpens the mind trying to keep to a timetable designed for a DMU service, with a steam loco !

I had a great trip last week on the bubble car with my wife and an old friend, with a group from Cornwall joining us later in the afternoon. The bubble car used to do yeoman service on the Cornish branches pre- Sprinterisation. Sadly we could not come again later that week to ride behind steam, but the photos above show how 'right' the steam visitor looks on this line.

I'll look for an excuse to visit again! And Wirksworth is a lovely country town.

Had to strengthen the Duffield service today with passengers turning up in substantial numbers and a pleasant surprise of a coach party. Makes it all worth while!

The warming fire has been put into 52322 for Thurday's activities. It seems that it will be very warm on the footplate though!

Will you be providing appropriate refreshments for the poor souls on the footplate tomorrow?

Despite it's L&Y origin, it's not a million miles from an elderly Midland 0-6-0.

Sounds like the so-and-sos who started the fire may have been identified. Meanwhile the report in the Matlock Mercury referred to a brake van as " a van in which guards take their breaks".

52322 looks just right on the train, but also very good just drifting across the pointwork from the shed to the running line at the top end of the yard. A few wagons standing about there would set it off perfectly.

52322 is warmed through again for another day of steam in the Valley. Not that many opportunities left to ride behind this venerable old lady!

I called in at Wirksworth late this afternoon on the way back from Barrow Hill. There were still a lot of people about and a very happy buzz. Looking forward to the bank holiday weekend.
