The forecast is for one more very hot and humid day in the South, then a progressive break down in the weather for the rest of the week. But mainly with showers and not a decent westerly bringing a good few hours of steady rain. Yet!

Fingers crossed we are back to steam haulage next weekend, I think me going out to buy two pairs of shorts yesterday had the desired effect.

Yes Wedgie the barometer has budged off 1026 and fallen to 1018 today. Currently still falling slowly with air temp at 83.6F here in Locks Heath. First time its fallen this month. Rain or storms ahead so make the most of the summer sun, but good news for steam. Yipee 34046 to Torbay on 4th August?

Heavy rain shower in west London at 5:45am today (Monday) followed half an hour later by the most almighty thunderstorm and deluge. Now back to hot and very humid but lots more rain forecast for tomorrow.

Thunderstorms overnight in the Bristol/Bath area. The fields are very wet this morning but is it enough to make a difference to the steam + diesel combination hauling the 'Weymouth Seaside Express' this coming Sunday? It would be nice to think that the the train could be allowed to run without a diesel . <BJ>

Is the steam + diesel combo a fact? I asked RTC the other day and they couldn't/wouldn't say.

Woke up to a big thunderstorm and plenty of rain in Brum this morning, good chance of solo steam on the Shakespeare I'd say unless a roasting day of full sun pops out somewhere, certainly been raining for at least 3 hours and counting.

Up in Yorkshire (not too far from York) it's been cooler and mainly cloudy since Friday, with only yesterday afternoon and evening reverting to sunny and warm. Significant rain overnight Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the latter very heavy (water butt nearly full) and it's raining now. Forecast is for more of the same. Wonder how much longer the SSE needs to have a diesel pushing the steam?

At a guess I should think NR and the TOC's will wait and see for a couple of days before looking at lifting any restrictions and then probably on a regional basis.
As David1984 said earlier we've had a good soaking in B'ham this morning with more forecast for the next few days, so fingers crossed for a diesel free Shakespeare this Sunday.

Ironically my local shack flooded this morning totally cocking up London Midland, talk about lurching from one extreme to the other.

I woulden't lose hope yet Spam, long way till Sunday, might change yet still.

Looking at the BBC weather forecasts on-line, there's not much rain forecast for Somerset & Dorset until Saturday night, which might be too late for NR to review the restrictions. Situation is quite changeable, though, so you never know.

The forecast for the northern Pennines, on the other hand, suggests a lot of rain today and Thurs/Fri, though it should be cloudy but dry tomorrow for The Fellsman. I expect that will still take a DL along, but maybe 61994 will be allowed to do more of the work away from the really sensitive area between Selside and Mallerstang?

Was that Hall Green? Amazingly LM kept the services running down to Worcester despite them being an hour late. Usually they're stopped at Kidderminster.

Blooming well hope so. I am NOT interested in driving 150 miles for a ride behind a clapped out diesel lump.
