RTT does not list the actual loco, in fact it does not have 'Steam' in it's vocabulary, hence all steam charters are shown as diesel...
Got to http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced enter location, best to enter start point of tour. Select time from drop down list, I normally take 02.00 to 01.59, having done that you then can alter the date from today to whenever you want, from the all box select the TOC, WR for West Coast, or all if you are not sure, then fine tune if required with 'all services', 'all schedules' and STP indicators.
Now this is the way I do it others may well have a different approach...

Ask tom@swlines.co.uk via email, he invented it and will answer any questions you have.

Doh! well done Ralph, thought about what you just wrote, but decided it was too much bother, hence the above.

Also a useful thing to know, all charters on RTT will feature a "Z" as the headcode letter or the "FRGT" code for a freight (even if it's a charter) depending on who the TOC is(happens in DRS's case but not sure about others).

The first number in the headcode is significant for working out what a train is too, briefly you have:

    0 -Light Engine
    1 - Express
    2- Stopper
5 - Empty Stock or Engine + Support Coach

Steam is extremely unlikely to use any other headcode number as those relate to freights, test trains etc.

If a train uses the freight code as opposed to 1ZXX, the best way to find it is to look at the start & finish points, for example, a Trafford Park - Felixstowe is likely to be a Freightliner train, but say a Paddington - Stratford on Avon is almost certainly a charter.

As far as I'm aware David at UKSteam uses the more old fashioned method of having contacts in the business who keep him updated. You do need to remember that neither can be 100% accurate all the time, there are always glitches in any system.
