The challenge with these short dining trains is the amount of money you have to charge to make it pay. If this was a revenue train and not a trial run, you would be looking at ₤125 per person minimum for dining. All of a sudden, it's not so attractive!

I've often thought that myself...The Tin Bath seemed quite popular, but maybe too many of them, and it had a good catchment area......

That's for sure...you've got to make it pay.......careful market research should take care of that, which you are obviously very good at......

You're missing the point. The cost of the food is almost irrelevant. It’s the costs associated with running the train on the mainline, plus the cost of the kitchen and wait-staff that makes up the bulk of the financial burden.

These are the same if you are doing a Fish-and-Chip supper or a gourmet meal with a fish-course!

Yes I understand that........just thought basic pie and peas could be tackled from another angle without large amount of staff......although there's obviously areas I have no experience of.......just a thought.....keep up the good work.....I don't know how you do it..........

I think it is very refreshing to see a proper English menu for once, instead of bloody roast beef and yorkshire pudding again. Make sure you save some for the crew! (I could have Bobs share !!!)

Am I to assume to roster is in your favor Sir?

I will make sure there is sufficient nourishment to fuel the crew at the sharp end!

Out of interest, does anyone (Ben?) know what the weight of the tanker/coach is? It's of minor importance to bean counters for train load...and for 6/4/13.

Those timings are showing "Diesel locomotive" - or am I missing something? (very likely)

Realtime Trains always shows steam timings as "Diesel locomotive"

On the system used there is no category for steam, only reason there is Diesel/Electric is so you don't send anything with a pantograph up an unwired bit of track.

You'd think the choice would be something like overhead/3rd-rail/other/none, rather than diesel/electric, wouldn't you? But I digress...

Can only put that down to there being very few routes where the AC overheads and DC 3rd rail meet each other (which are usually worked by dual voltage types anyway).

Ticket in the first-class post tomorrow, so they should arrive Monday.

Please remember that the primary reason for this trip is a test run for 5043 and the Water Carrier...... I don't want to hear any nonsense about not running to time, etc.

We are pretty close to full for the Curry, but we have some Standard seats available if anyone is up for a pay-on-the-day.

    See you tomorrow eve!
