Yesterday was a good blast from the past with 1450 and 5542 doing the honours for my trip back to 1958 - almost! A bonus around 3 pm at Buckfastleigh was watching 1450 and auto shunting the SRM from the sidings by the shed to the down platform road, before setting off for Totnes. The destination board 'SEATON' was carried on the front/back ofthe auto coach, and 'ASHBURTON' on the side - a fair compromise. Hoping that today and the weekend have decent weather; I may get another day out.

Another wonderful day on the SDR. I saw and rode the following

5542 ran in the middle of 2 autos- a visual treat.

1450 ran with one coach and also with Hemyock style milk tankers

    1369 plus a local train

steam railmotor 93 continued in good form and I enjoyed 2 round trips

friendly atmosphere. If you go Sunday I hope you enjoy yourself. It really is avery special gala!

ps the real ales seemed popular at Staverton

I attended on Saturday and it was a really excellent event - one of the best galas I have been to at any railway. Trains were busy but seats were available on all services. All the trains offered interest, with the one coach BR service behind 1450 probably my favourite (I liked the fact that it was a GWR coach in BR livery - seemed to make it all the better for me). The SDR is my personal favourite line as most of my family holidays as a child were spent in Buckfastleigh where my Mum grew up, and I therefore find it difficult to be completely objective about this, but is there a more perfectly formed steam line anywhere in the country?

A quick question for those in the know - what is the pannier in maroon in the workshop? Is it 5786?

5786 is indeed returning to steam as its London transport alias L.92 the final coats and lining are due to be applied in the next few weeks. For more info search the forum and there s a thread on 5786. Hope this helps.

I have a quick question, is 3803 returning in the near future or has it been sold off? I saw it at the GCR recently.
