    Hi everyone.

Got a problem with a sticking fuel gauge for the header tank on 08915. Could anyone give some advice on how we could possibly rectify this? Tried sudden breaking to try and swill the fuel in the tank but no luck as of yet.

Beat the living cr*p out of the tank, next to the gauge, with a big hammer.

Sound advice especially in the winter to counteract water condensation within the tank, which is/was probably the reason the gauge mechanism got stuck in the first place.

I was in the vicinity of the North Wales Coast on an HST one night during the broken rail diversions / tour round Birmingham / Hatfield panic when we ran out of fuel. We'd been running on the front unit 'cos the rear one wouldn't start at Euston. I can't quite recall how many hours late we were but it was several.

I seem to recall the driver descending to the fuel tank and hammering at it considerably, but I don't think he was trying to free the fuel gauge. After relieving his feelings he managed to get the ass end unit started up - I guess it had had a nice rest by then - and pushed us in to Bangor. Good bloke.

When all else has failed, "persuade" it with a hefty 4lb tapping stick.
And if this lift pump on my car doesn't get it's act together that's going to get a seeing to. Bloody thing. :mmph:

You could always fit a manual fuel transfer pump from an 08. Would make driving interesting, mind you.
