I don't think you need to go this far - surely we can stick to what was[\b] done in the past not what might have been done?

You can't stick to what was done in the past to 110 if you want it to appear as an IOW loco. However, would it be so terrible if it was restored as a non-IOW loco?

I am afraid this is not quite the point. As I understand it the bequest is on condition that W2 Yarmouth would be recreated. My own question is "would it be so terrible if it were restored as an IOW loco"? The answer, in my case, would be "absolutely no problem at all"!

I haven't heard anything about a bequest and, of course, the new owners may do as they like. But the question was raised earlier about what is authenticity. In this case it is impossible to be authentic to both the loco and the railway. As W2 Yarmouth it will have a faked identity. As 110 it would not be an 'IoW' E1.

The bequest and the wishes of the benefactor are referred to on the IOWSRly. website.

At the end of the day, the loco is now the property of the IOWSR,and they can paint it what ever colour they choise, and number it what ever number they wish, the engine was sold out of service in 1926, so the only authentic colour would be LBSCR Marsh umber, just be thankfull that the engine will now be returned to steam this is an everyone wins situation, the IOWSR get an engine they have always wanted, 46447 now gets restored and give the ESR an usefull engine so seeing 46447 steam again and an IOW E1 come back from beyong the grave who would have drempt that one day you will stand at Havenstreet and watch an E1 ratling through at the head of a freight rake ?
