From the Crewe direction there are two alternatives, dep Crewe on London Mid, 6.47 change Smethwick Galton Bridge, Tys 8.16 or Crewe, Virgin, New Street 8.17 walk to Moor St for 8.39 to Tys 8.46. There are returns in the evening either route 19.18, 19.45, 20.45 and 22.09.

As there were two thread on this they have now been merged.

How long does the walk from NS to MS take? Thinking maybe worth utilising the latter train.

It takes about 5 mins if you don't get lost in the massive shopping centre, as we did on our way to Tyseley, but we made it... NS to MS is much easier to get lost than the return though...

Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and follow the scent of steam.. It will guide you there.

Alternatively, exit the main street exit, (where taxis pickup or drop off) go straight to the main road, cross over it, go into the shopping centre (or turn left and walk up hill curving around it, if it's not open) ,keep going straight until you exit the other side, there Brunel will have left you an unmistakable beacon..cross at the traffic lights and enter the GWR building.

But don't take the deep breath just as you are leaving New Street station, otherwise you will get a lung full of tobacco smoke from the gaggle of smokers around the exit.

It is a quick walk - 5 mins at most. There is a roadway that goes under the shopping center that directly connects New St to Moor St.

    Easy peasy!

If there are several of from up north venturing into the bowels of Brum then we had better go mob handed for safety..

I'm reserved on this trip too.. Can't wait. 2nd time up the lickey incline.. This time behind 2 panniers.. It's going to be some sight.. Are there any other gradients we will be attacking on the day of tour?? I must say this is a really cheap tour £60 for a standard class ticket. Well done to the guys at vintage trains for organising a tour around the west midlands.. If this forum can get a coach full, how is the tour selling Ben?

Wilmcote Bank is the main one, 1 in 75 from the outskirts of Stratford up to Wilmcote station/Bearley Junction, there are other gradients but nothing of any great significance, back up the North Warwick is mostly around 1 in 150 odd to Earlswood and I think there's a gentle climb up to Rowley Regis from the east (as opposed to the 1 in 51 from the west!), there's a short stiff climb towards the end of the Itinery from Landor St up to Bordesley Jcn, but it's so short when turning off onto the GWR lines im not sure its worthy of the title "bank".

I hope someone from VT decides to shake the bucket on the Lickey this time, could be a real money spinner considering the amount of folks on the last ascent!

If time allows my money will be spent sat on the cushions.
