    Hi all -

Below is the loco roster for May 2012 - all the usual caveats apply. The information is provided in good faith, however occasionally things can change - so if you're travelling to see a specific locomotive, it is best to ring the railway in advance on 01267 238 213, to confirm that it is running.

    4th May -
5th May - Haulwen (Evening Dinex)
    6th May - Haulwen
    7th May - Haulwen
    8th May - Haulwen
    9th May - Haulwen
10th May - Haulwen (Cream Tea Train)
    11th May -
    12th May -
13th May - Haulwen (Sunday Lunch Train)
    14th May -
    15th May - Haulwen
    16th May - Haulwen
17th May - Haulwen (Cream Tea Train)
    18th May -
19th May - Haulwen (Evening Dinex)
20th May - Haulwen (Sunday Lunch Train)
    21st May -
    22nd May - Haulwen
    23rd May - Haulwen
24th May - Haulwen (Cream Tea Train)
    25th May -

Yes, the work on Bridge 6 is scheduled to take place in a 5 day session from May 10th-15th. Probably have pictures on the extension website shortly after.

Once the bridge job is done, tracklaying will continue, no firm date for this yet though.

    Regards

    Matt

Yes the Priory is a good one, that's in Carmarthen itself about a mile or so from the main station.

The Holybrook Inn is in the same village as the railway, and also has good food on offer

Hollybrook Country Inn - A local Pub and country Bed and Breakfast accomodation in Bronwydd near carmarthen, West Wales

Our own website gives a link to bus times here plus further info on our location.

What do you imagine the layout to be like in Carmarthen North? A simple run round loop or will you be looking for siding space? Regards Tom

    Hi Tom

We will definatley need siding space at Carmarthen- it is something we are lacking generally on the railway. Work has been ongoing for the last year or so to increase the siding space we have at Llwyfan Cerrig, mainly for the purposes of storing the DMU. However the attractive location of the station doesn't lend itself to storing lots of items of stock! Where precisley the new sidings at the Carmarthen end will go is under discussion at the moment.

    A few news bits

    - the Peckett (ex Swansea Vale Railway) is now in MPD for a cosmetic job, I am not sure what colour yet but when finished it will go on display at Llwyfan Cerrig
    - Olwen's boiler is still being worked on in Somerset
    - Welsh Guardsman is progressing at Llangollen with the cylinder block out of the frames
    - Work on the two vintage carriages are ongoing in the shed at Llwyfan Cerrig - both progressing well.
    - The Cafe Coaches are coming along too and we hope that they will be up and running shortly
    - As mentionned above work is going to restart on the extension soon with the replacement of Bridge 6
    - The restoration of the GWR Mink is progressing well
    - Some of our members spent the weekend "offsite" as we have been offered an ex- railway building appropriate to our line and the process of recovery is underway...watch this space.

As Phil mentionned above, train services continue to operate so come and see how things are going, don't just take my word for it.....

    Regards

    Matt

It would be interesting, but as Matt says, please bear with us and wait for the post once things are finalised, for things are at a bit of a delicate stage to the extent that we wish to maintain a media embargo for the time being. Please, no speculation for the time being.

Margaret in Scolton manor looks sad! It would be great to see that gwr loco restored on the gwili with 216 and Tvr 220. From the same period too I think! Just a thought to encourage conversation.

Yes it would look good. Our first priority is to get 216 and 220 up and running, we can then let the debate flow about them being hauled by Austerities.....

    regards

They are truly stunning coaches! An asset to the railway! I love the austerities I believe they look good and sound as good as anything. It just would be amazing to have an entirely 19th century welsh train on the gwili! It may bring revenue off tv also but the price of refurbishing and restoring of such a loco must be upwards of 300,000! If not a lot more. Tvr 28 would be the other loco that would look great! Was dinmore manor one of the first locos to haul a train to llwyfam Cerrig? It would be a great loco to open the extension! We just need a really rich business man with a blank cheque! However this may take away from the railway, it's friendliness is one of its main assets. The money would be better spend on a shed I guess, you could get a large agricultural type shed for 20,000. It's just great though to see things progressing. Wonderful railway, wonderful scenery.

    Regards Tom

The extension opened for passenger traffic on April 17th 1987.

Being 25 years since the opening, we gave thought to marking the event this year somehow - particularly as we were operating a normal service on April 17th 2012 (which fell on a Tuesday). We thought about carrying a commerative headboard on the 1030 ex BA (25 years ago to the minute!), or something similar. Unfortunately with DOWT preparations etc, the small team of us who suggested it simply ran out of time to organise anything. Oh well - roll on the 30th anniversary....

Thanks for your enthusiastic support and kind comments, tbh17. It'd be good to see you down at the railway some day.

Incidentally, suggestions welcome as to locos that'd be good to open the extension to Carmarthen North. Although we have to get there first!

    Cheers,

    Phil.
