    In other news....

The N2 has now arrived, as has the Old Gentleman's Saloon, star of "The Railway Children" film. (Pictures to follow later.)

In order to make room for the 17 (yes 17!!!) engines, the B1 frames and cab have today moved out of the Roundhouse and are heading to Crewe to be reunited with the boiler. Bon voyage to our friends at the B1 Trust - we look forward to welcoming them back to Barrow Hill later in the year.

Those of you who are keeping an eagle eye on these things will have noticed that 16 has become 17...we are delighted to announce that John Cameron's K4 Great Marquess is now also joining the Fab Four party. The full line up is now:

A1 No. 60163 Tornado (in steam)
    A2 No. 60532 Blue Peter
    A4 No. 4468 Mallard
A4 No. 4464 Bittern (in steam)
    V2 No. 60800 Green Arrow
K4 No. 61994 Great Marquess (in steam)
    C1 No. 251

    Other LNER representatives: N2 No. 1744 0-6-2T (in steam), J72 No. 69023 0-6-0T Joem (in steam), J17 No. 8217, J94 No. 68030 0-6-0ST (in steam), Y7 No. 1310 0-4-0T (in steam), GCR No. 506 4-4-0 Butler-Henderson

From other regions: Midland Railway half-cab No. 1708, ‘Black Five’ No. 45110, Hawthorn Leslie 0-4-0ST Henry and USA Tank 30075.

Indeed Sheff - if we carry on at this rate we'll have to take over the brickyard next door to line them all up! I'm told by those that know about these things that this is one of the largest ever line ups of LNER engines (we're up to 13, 7 in steam) in preservation.

Although there's been a note about this on the Barrow Hill website for some time now, just a quick reminder that the Roundhouse is NOT open this weekend because we are preparing for the Fab Four Steam Gala. Hope lots of you who have been taking the time to read this thread will be joining us on one of the three very special days next week! Happy Easter everyone.

Ok - who's attending this feast of the finest in steam locomotion then? I'll be there on the Sunday, giving Tornado a polish, so do say Hi if we're in an accessible location :yo:

I'm attending on Saturday, fingers crossed the weather holds!!!!!!!!

On a side note myself & a good mate are staying in Chesterfield on Friday night - so can anybody tell me if there is a decent pub in the center that does decent grub at a reasonable price and also somewhere for breakfast on Saturday, as I'm not paying the asking price in the hotel for a coffee & croissant!!!!!!! TIA.

Seriously looking forward to this (shame about 4472, but heck what a line up!) :biggrin1:

    Thanks for that! :thumb:

Though I was trying to avoid the 'McD's' of the pub world ( I like the 'Home cooked' pub grub!)

I've had a look on the CAMRA website - are the Rutland Arms or the Royal oak any good for the food as well as the beer?

Ok 16 down, 2 to go - Tornado, Bittern and the Great Marquess have all arrived today and are now safely tucked up in the Roundhouse for the night! Just Mallard and Green Arrow to welcome tomorrow, lots of elbow grease and polish from the support crews and the Barrow Hill cleaning gang and then - in the words of the song "let's get the party started" - with breakfast in a pub somewhere in Chesterfield by the sound of it :)

On 'Beer in the evening' the Royal Oak seems to have the edge ? Also Chandlers gets a good report.

Cheers - I/we shall no doubt investigate! - we get into chesterfield approx 5pm, so after dumping luggage at the hotel the pub will no doubt top of the agenda!!!! ( it'll take time to get there as my mate is on crutches at the mo LOL!)

Duty Druid - they don't offer breakfast but one pub you really must try if you like real ales is The Chesterfield Arms, 40 Newbould Road, Chesterfield.

In all today's excitement, I nearly forgot!! A surprise late addition to our line up arrived this afternoon - Sir Berkeley the 0-6-0ST from the Middleton Railway - also in steam. Which brings the tally up to 18. If you haven't already booked your ticket, fear not. Although advance tickets sales have now been withdrawn, you can still get a ticket on the day. Friday and Saturday are likely to be the busiest of the three days.

Being a first time visitor to Barrow Hill on Friday, what would be the protocol for boarding the free bus from Chesterfield station? Where would I catch it from? How regular are they?

Looking forward to this, looks to be a great event for LNER fans, should be nice to see 251 out of Bressingham!
