That is always a limiting factor on using tank engines whilst you can take water quite easily nothing upsets the timetable like having to un couple, run onto shed , coal up, then go back on train , do a brake test and be off, unless you timetable an half hour break to allow you to do this your going to end up running late , and if you have to connect with the main line it can end up with all kinds of troubles for passingers

The truth is Douglas doesn't look much like a Black Motor - for that matter it doesn't look much like a Caledonian Jumbo either (the inspiration for Douglas), the wheels are too close together and too small to be either class. It would also need an extension on the smokebox to look like a black motor.

My personal view is it should have a removable tender cab, a spurious southern number (39999?) a cycling lion on the tender and be called Baby Bertha; except when on Thomas duty when tender cab could be removed and the name and markings could be changed to suit.

Could this be the fabled Maunsell Y Class? X Class? Never mind! It was worth a try!

Anyone know where 30076 ended up after being moved. Doesn't sound like she is at Barrow Hill with 30075.

I hear they are in the home straight with finishing off the overhaul of 925. Can't be to long before she will turn her wheels in anger again at Eastleigh before going to York. Reading Steam Railway magazine the MHR won't use her until the Autumn steam gala 7th - 9th Sept. This is to maximumise the attendance at the gala.

I'm sure someone will start a MHR autumn steam gala thread at some point. But just to add to my other post. Reading SR today the autumn gala should also get punters flocking to the MHR. Quoting SR mag 777 Sir Lamiel will be out shopped in Oliver Bulleid's striking green livery. Which hasn't been seen on Sir Lamiel for six decades and the first time she has carried per BR livery since the 80s. Then just to put the icing on the cake two S15s to boot and both in Olive green.

Sounds interesting but are you sure about those dates?

Surely it's longer than six decades as that would take us to 1952, i can't see why she would be wearing southern green then?

Secondly she ran in the 90's in Southern.

Which two S15's are to be expected there? I didn't think 506 was that close to running? The only other combination is 825 & 847 surely.

Any chance of the bluebell lending 1638 for a visit for 31806 in return! Would be rather fitting!

According to SR yes it is 825 and 847 to be in steam with 925, 850, 31806 and 777 plus other members of the home fleet. I suspect that with 847 visiting then 1638 will probably be kept at the Bluebell to haul services.

Not sure if there are any plans to spruce up 31874 and 31625. Would be nice for some cosmetic work to be done to both or at least the N Class.

777 as said is due to appear in Malachite and will appear next year in Malachite but as 30777 and British Railways on the tender.

"Cheltenham" is getting close, not that much to do now. There is a blog awaiting proof reading in the moment, which should go up next week.

Apart from at Railfest in 2002, I've not seen her in any livery! I do remember 506 in Olive green though, and Southern black which I liked

I can't say I'm only quoting SR mag but reading a later post on this thread I take the Southern livery not being used since the 50s is regarding the lettering on her tender?

The Maunsell themed Autumn gala looks like it's going to be a superb event and I can't wait to see Cheltenham in steam. However will the organisers try and see if they can borrow the Bluebell's 3 olive green Maunsell carriages or the K&ESR's Maunsell carriage? It will be such a shame to see all these Southern liveried locos hauling nothing but BR era Mk1 carriages. Ideally the Maunsell gala would be more fitting to have the locos in BR era livery to match-up with the BR rolling stock that the Mid-Hants have but nothing's perfect I guess.
