Don't have a go at me chum. I'm not the one who suggested the video was filmed from the wrong side of the fence.

Didn't you know that Oliver Cromwell was a Scotsman and Cleethorpes is a former Scottish colony? :)
Like you I'm bemused by bagpipes in Lincolnshire.

I went there behind Scotsman in the 60's - perhaps the local rag cocked up and thought it was a second coming?

Award for the most irresponsible post of the year? :first: What sort of an example does this set to the young (and old) enthusiasts of today? That trespass on the network is acceptable because you are a photographer? Just where do you start with this - how does taking pictures of trains somehow put you beyond the law, a law which it there to actually help you keep your life.

Just remember, it's not long since folk were locked up for incitement to riot on public forums, and encouraging mass trespass on the network could well land you in hot water.

Credit due to the support crew that they were able to effect a repair, "away from the facilities", presumably they had access to the necessary tools and spare rings, and were able to check that there was no liner or port damage. Not everyone's cup of tea partially taking down the motion on a winter's afternoon in a siding in Cleethorpes.

Well done to all concerned. Very professional in my opinion!

Indeed, very impressive. Do tours often run with such spares & tools, if so what sort of things can they repair lineside?

Support coaches usually have a wide range of tools and spares. If not exactly for line side repairs but rather at a depot there are often items such as spare springs, outside wheel bearings brake blocks etc. and the tools require to fit them.

Certainly a cracking effort from everyone involved in keeping the loco going. The repair was actually done in Platform 1 at Cleethorpes station! The loco is in fact still there now (well, it was at 08:30 this morning), nearly up to the bufferstops. Yesterday was a very miserable day at Cleethorpes, with rain continuously all day with some heavy spells too, and a windy day, too, so for the crew to perform the repair in such prevailing conditions, the least they deserve is a well earned pat on the back!

Health & safety has nothing to do with trespassing on a railway. If you spend five seconds reading Health & Safety legislation you'll realise that it is not onerous, it does not ban you from doing anything at all, and is in place to protect workers, and the public.

If you choose to believe rubbish, lies and myths about H&S that is your choice, but don't peddle them around like they are fact.

I can vouch for that - spent a couple of years on a contract in Grimsby. Cleethorpes was very good at turning money into beer and pizza.

As the person who started the thread a few observations.
This was my first post on this or any other forum. My personal preference is not to travel on a train or video one with a diesel on the back, so the information gleaned was great and it enabled me to get one of my best shots ever as she(he) approached Newark.
The moderators must really have their work cut out here, as to whether to let a thread run, or run the risk of it running seriously off message.
In this threads case, someone almost immediately asked if it mattered whether it had a diesel on the back, that was not what thread was about, and I resisted the temptation to get into that debate.
Then later on the classic lack of first hand evidence in the issue of trespass, and the specific problem with the loco, led to the thread going seriously off message with subsequent intervention.
I would suggest that as with any electronic communication, that you really think before pressing the send button.
I have been involved in jet aircraft preservation for 25 years, and some of the above is why we stopped our forum.
Not sure if I'll post again, but thanks for the info.
    Chris.
