BBC News - Work begins on railway line between Sharpness and Oldbury

Mr Heathcote added that due to a surplus of rolling stock around the country and a lack of heritage lines, he is confident he can find trains and carriages to run on the line.

Unless they are building an entirely new railway there ain't a railway between Sharpness & Oldbury!!

There is a mothballed stetch of line from Berkeley Road (jct with NR; station long demolished) and the outskirts of Sharpness (quite some way from he site of the former passenger station) which was used in connection with Berkeley Power Station about 2.5 miles long. No doubt this is what is being referred to.

The area is already pretty well served by heritage lines so yet another one is really not a good idea.

Oldbury is the local name given to the area that Berkeley road is in. The Garage at J13 of the M5 is officially know as Oldbury services for the same reason Maybe that is the reason the beeb have got confused as there was of course both Berkeley and Oldbury power stations.

Yes about 12 months ago in fact. Part of the debate was concerning the future of the heritage group at Long Marston (Stratford & Broadway Rly Society) and the plan was I believe for most of the group's stock to relocate to Sharpness. I'm still not sure whether this has since happened as there has been no news since until now but I note from the S&D Website at Midsomer Norton that a 2 car DMU and 2 ex-RNAD box vans from Long Marston are now at Midsomer Norton and the DMU is in use on the newly rebuilt stretch of the S&D. According to the UK Companies' Website companiesintheuk.co.uk Proactive Vision ceased to be registered in August 2011 but it may have been relaunched or whatever the legal term is for this.

Is there any more news on this group? I seem unable to find a website.

The line is still used for occasional freight IIRC.

"Mr Heathcote added that due to a surplus of rolling stock around the country and a lack of heritage lines, he is confident he can find trains and carriages to run on the line!"

So all the complaints about lack of available steam, and lack of available coaches leaving people to restore Mk1s that were already entirely stripped for spares and full of rust is what?
