    Chasewater Railway “Asbestos Special”
We are running an “Asbestos Day Special" on 1st January 2012 from 10am to 5pm. This event is to mark the end of 1909 built Hawthorn Leslie No.2780 “Asbestos” 0-4-0t current time in traffic and it’s 10 year steam ticket. The one day event will see Chasewater's favourite steam engine, 102 year old Asbestos providing traction. Resident loco RSH 0-6-0 No.7684 Nechells No.4 will also be in steam to accompany Asbestos on her last day. It will be a time of celebration for the railway owned locomotive which is always very popular with our visitors, and it has been the main stay of service at the colliery line having arrived over 40 years ago. Shortly after the event Asbestos is going to be retired to undergo a heavy general overhaul. Subject to the required funds being raised we expect that the work needed to return it to traffic should take approximately three years to complete.

That is a shame especially with two engines in steam. A mini industrial gala on new years day would have been a nice treat.

I said I'd pass on the message, so don't shoot the messenger...

With all the talk of vocal performances etc (sounding very promising!), any chance of Darfield in place of Neachells? :)

The 56A bus from Birmingham does run that day (planner - enter 'Brownhills West Station' and select 'Facility/attraction'). Long trip from your profile location though.

just use the brasso as the hangover cure, it will either make u to ill to care about a hangover or probably kill ya, either way ya wont notice the hangover.

With Asbeston in for a Major. you will get more than enough opportunity to see Darfield in action through 2012.

No worries, didn't expect one request to influence the rostering, but I said I'd ask  Should think we'll still be turning up, providing I'm not too merry behind 70013 the previous night!

    Looking forward to tomorrow.

Any news on a timetable and in particular the coal trains?

    Thanks in advance,

    Not really.
I know the first train is a passenger at 10.30 (ish) double headed with Colin McAndrew and Asbestos,
Neachels No4 on a freight, Colin McAndrew on freight shunt release and banking duties thereafter,
and Asbestos on a freight, mix and match really trying to fit in as many possibilities as possible.
there will be no trains using the bays at Brownhills or the heath, all trains are end to enders.
