The current Proposed lineup for the 2012 Crewe pool is forecast for 5305, 6233 and 70013 as the 3 locomotives pulling 9 Scarborough Flyers, 7 Cumbrian Mountain Expresses, and 6 North Wales Coast Express trains.

With 6233 back in the fold hopefully things shall go a bit more smoothly.

With Oliver Cromwells issues this past summer Ollie's schedule was very lean 1 Scarborough Flyer the 2 North Wales Coast Expresses. The engine had been scheduled for the 3 CMES out of Liverpool and 1 out of Crewe and 1 or 2 more Scarborough Flyer. 5305 on those 4 CME's and 34067 on 1 Scarbourough Flyer and 6201 on the September 2nd run.

5305 had a great summer of duties performing well everytime she was called upon. Hopefully, the 2 big pacifics shall take the bulk of the load.

It would be nice if another Pacific locomotive could be added to the fold 34067, 60009, or 60019

Hoping for a great summer 2012. Share your thoughts.

And you're sure this will be the line up because?

Well at least it is not 'The Gospel according to Steam Railway'. I accept that this is the intention, although to start getting too excited 8 months in advance is perhaps unwise!

Even though this is 8 months away I'm not really focused on it, The winter cumbrians and the 2 big tours and the Vintage trains doubleheader are all before this.

Still though it will be interesting to see if these 3 locomotives are the final motive power in the weeks, Months ahead anything can happen.

Dunno 6100 hasnt been included, so maybe some are being wise (or just lost hope)

Barring any unforseen mechanical issues, a pool of 45305, 46233 and 70013 seems sensible enough, including the likes of 6100 or 60009 would be pushing it, true they may be ready by then but could you say that with any like certainty ?, i know the Duchess is not ready yet but considering its current state, it's difficult to envisage it not being operational by summer.

Well, after reading the RYTC program for 2012, Lizzie is mentioned as motive power for Cumbrian Mountain Express and North Wales Coast trips duties. I don't know if this is true unless a 6-month extension has been or shall be granted in March 2012. Stay tuned.

If true, out goes the exclusive BR theme with a touch of Red in the mix.

Mike, anything that RTC put in their programme this far ahead must not be treated with caution. It is not yet known if Lizzie will get an extension or even if they want one, so putting her in the motive power list is speculation at the moment.

The support crew on Vintage Trains "75th Anniversary Tour" confirmed they do want one and moves are already under way to get one based on an additional "x" number of steamings rather than a fixed period of time, though presumably there will be some time limit imposed. They are hopeful of getting an extension but of course nothing is guaranteed. Thats why the loco has provisionally been aded to next summers Crewe pool [except Scarborough Flyers] and pencilled in for the Lancashire Circle on 8 Sept. I think you may find it doing some Vintage Trains tours as well if it gets an extension. However everything is down to the boiler inspection.

I'm bringing this topic up because there are bound to be lots of questions and discussion at this point.
Will there be 4 locomotives in Crewe definitely?
Before I say more, I would like to hear what others have to say first so I don't make any assumptions.

    Is Lizzie still provisional?

Is asking questions still speculative at this point?

Has there been a 4 locomotive Crewe Pool before?

I think it is a good time to give this topic a bump because it is relavent at this point. Will 2 locomotives be enough for what is going on in Crewe this summer?

My personal opinion is that the A4 & Duchess handled the schedule rather well last weekend despite the absence of Cromwell.
I do wonder though if a 3rd locomotive shall be needed.

From other threads it appears there may be problems with 46233 on the NWCE's, it being not allowed on the Warrington - Chester line, so I would have thought a third loco could be advantageous. I for one would like to see 70013 back in the Crewe pool.

It would seem Lil Bear is correct, 5305 is now at Carnforth and will work from there, probably on the Moorlanders when the problem with having to use some air braked only stock is sorted.
60009 will have to do the NWCEs because of the gauging problems mentioned, the other work is likely to be shared between DoS and UoSA.
I would not be surprised if Nigel does not want 5305 on his trains.

The locos might have handled it but its hard going on the support crews who have to work a trip, spend 'all' night servicing the loco and then work another trip.

It is a shame about what is going on at Crewe. What happened to 60009 today. 46233 cannot go it alone. Olympic Restrictions what an excuse.
    Can anything be brought in?

Besides that outside of Crewe 44932, 46115, and 60019 have had issues.

There is nothing "going on" at Crewe

The A4 developed a minor defect - she came home under her own steam yesterday

6233 was still warm, so could have been flashed up - if the support crew were fit enough for another stint after Friday, but the Numpties at Network Rail put paid to that. The truth is that they simply have no experienced timers at the moment. They are busy making all the guys at Leeds redundant by September because no-one wants to move to Milton Keynes - so the guys are not doing any overtime, taking their leave etc. They will be replaced at MKC by new employees recruited "off the street" - so you know what service they will provide.

The Crewe based programme needs more than two engines for three trains a week, especially when only No 9 can go to Wales - but there are only two to be had. Not a good state of affairs - but RTC have got themselves into this - so they will have to get themselves out.

There is not much you can do when one problem runs into another. We can all have our "if only" moments.
60009 was likely to have the odd glitch being so fresh out of the shops. 46115 is not as dependable as one might like. Include the support crew situation then the braking situation..........you are heading for a spot of bother. If only all. excursion stock was dual braked. Carnforth has struck lucky in a way, having TGM there for a while covers The Fellman, providing owner and support are happy with the situation. Gives them some time to deal with their own engines. Crews needs a high performance engine of modest size and first class reliability for a month. To my mind the RTC should have made sure all engines in the pool were suitable for all tasks over all routes.
