And so it seems that BR Green has won the day.
    Excellent news, I think!

By nearly 1500 votes, it seems...! Great news for the fans of the green, and the fans of the LMS red get what they want in a year or so anyway.

A comprehensive win for BR Green. Lots of money raised for the engine - well done to the PRCLT.

Not really, it seemed to be very close for some time between the two. And i think a lot of us are amazed that that livery was so popular when it's been worn for so long.

My personal favourite was blue, mainly because we haven't seen it on that class in preservation. But BR green was a second best. I am glad that it is the chosen colour.

It could have all be settled amicably and not created anything like the stir it did in the railway press by simply not having LMS red as an option when it was ALWAYS going to go back into red after a year anyway as per the terms of the poll.

Some might say this has been a (highly successful) attempt to up the ante and the money raised for the engine - which nobody would object to if they didn't feel strongly about the manner in which the poll was done. They've done nothing illegal by any means, but the poll when originally opened, was, and has been, severely misleading about the chance to change the livery.

Nobody is going to seriously believe that if LMS red had won the poll that they would repaint the engine after one year of service into the same livery...? As promised by the conditions of the Poll, I might add.

I'm glad green has won - it offers something different - but I would hope the next group that tries something like this make their full intentions clearer.

On the other hand, it is a definite win for the locomotive and its trust: more to power to them in that respect.

But what if people actually (heaven forbid) like pre-nationalisation liveries? Should they not vote for their preferred livery because 'its going into that livery anyway'?

And why should heaven forbid that people like pre-nationalisation liveries? Having said that, I'm delighted with the result of the poll.

Sorry, the intended sarcasm obviously didn't come across, it was a comment on the 'if it moves, paint it BR' attitude that seems to pervade these days. Personally I couldn't normally give a rats ass about what colour something's painted (within reason), so I find all of these debates mildly amusing.

    Results are in...

In 4th place with 188 votes is LMS Black

In 3rd place with 1123 votes is BR Blue

In 2nd place is LMS Crimson with 2346 votes

BR Green wins with a staggering 3802 votes or 51% of the votes cast.

Now how do we vote for which crest? ;)

Late crest would be nice, the early one is very popular right now. I like 44932 in its late crest as there are two prominent 5s with the early one on the mainline at the moment.

The poll attracted a lot of criticism, and for very good reasons in my opinion, all of which have been aired very comprehensively on this forum and in the railway press. However, the end result is very positive and we can now all look forward to seeing a Duchess in green on the mainline next year - fantastic!
