Today a new Doctor Who trailer was shown on their official website and in it was a brief clip of a steam loco running along a viaduct into a Pyramid.

I can't identify if it is real or a CGI creation which the landscape seems to be. The carriages look familar though.

Anyway here's a screencap which is as close I could get to the loco as the shot zooms out from it.

I found another screencap thats a bit better than mine

A third possibility: it could be a model, with CGI merely providing the background... More likely than it being a real loco I'd guess.

I think I read somewhere that the Christmas special is on a train.

There was something said about an Egyptian Goddess on the Orient Express in Space in the last episode of the series last year but nothing came of it.

I do think the carriages look familar but from what I see of the train I can't tell which makes me think of a CGI model. Hopefully the episode will show it a bit more.

I'd say CGI. Notice the exhaust steam is the same on both screen caps yet the 'train' is in different locations!

I found I had this trailer recorded the other day whilst watching Torchwood (alright sue me) and slowing it down (not easy with a sky box) it did look like the Flying Scotsman. You can even see what looks like LNER on the side of the tender. I had wondered if they found some old footage it hauling a railtour over the Garsdale viaduct and imposed it on the CGI?

I know it was a well travelled locomotive, but railtours on Mars is pushing it a bit....

I wonder if they've borrowed some CGI capabilities from the makers of "Valiant" - that featured a sequence of a loco approximating to Flying Scotsman pulling some coaches that were almost, but not quite, completely unlike..... well any of the big forr's products!
