    Yahoo group reports the following;

    'Just this week Pallion Engineering Ltd have advised that dismantling of the
    Manxman is being delayed in the short term, however the process with continue
    once again very soon. They will further advise as soon as things start moving
    again. They now have a database of over 140 people interested in Manxman
    memorabilia and will issue a catalogue of available pieces in the near future.'

    Thanks John for the update and the link to a great if sad set of photographs.

    Having been in the Ship Hall in my younger days I cannot believe that the Manxman looks so small in that shed.

    i think that people are clutching at straws as regards Manxman , she really has run out of time and its time to let her go sad though it is, when you concider the shear ammount of work that would be needed its a project too far im afraid , put it this way would you spend money on an engine that needs new frames , cylinder block and a new boiler when you can buy another engine that just needs a retube? if the people who are interested in saving an historic boat were to put their efforts behind queen mary whilst she is still a possibility remember she is up for auction at the end of this month and is on the ships at danger list , if by chance i was to win the lottery , i know what i would prefer to bid for
    and is restorable

    Yes, if the former was completely unique, as both Manxman and the little Queen Mary are. However, I'm wondering if the stay of execution has come about because they found some more asbestos? There is of course another historic 'steamer' around (at Mostyn) but nothing has happened with the 'Duke of Lancaster' for years - despite the promise of 'exciting news' that never seems to surface - ho hum!

    Sadly as much as l want to see the Manxman survive, looking at recent photos of her, then its clear that her time has come, she is worth saving, but at what cost? The missed opportunities with the Manxman have been many, and sadly when you now look at the issues facing the Shieldhall, Waverley etc its clear that these wonderful vessels just gobble money.
    One thing is clear, our maritime heritage is being lost, and without either a fairy godmother or money coming from our government departments ( not much chance there is there) then we are going to loose more - what a very sad statement from a nation that used to rule the oceans of the world.

    When a project like SS Rotterdam fails, it underscores the difficuly of keeping these ventures afloat even when they have EVERYTHING going for them. Everyone who was anti-British attitude to Maritime Heritage held the Dutch up as a fine example of what could be done.............................

    Sad though the end of this ship may be, the saddest sight of all for me is that huge and wonderful facility at Pallion without work to fill it. How can it be possible to have a facility like that, and the most economic (or only use) for it is parking scrap ships, and not being in any hurry to clear the area for the next ship. Dreadful!

    You are so right 21B - if we can get TSS Dover on track-if we're in time-we'll do the same for Manxman. That dry dock should be housing a new Ship Building skills revival scheme. JEEZ this is so irritating!

    Quite so, but it relies on funding and political will, I fear :(

    Perhaps if our Government subsidised ship building to the same extent as South Korea, China and Japan do (or did) - well, who knows !?
