Not quite 10000/1 but if you look here & scroll down to 19/06/11 there is a picture of 37372 at Barrow Hill which looks as if it is being converted to a Baby Deltic.

I understand the Bury Hydraulic Group have recently purchased two used ex locomotive Maybach MD870's with very low engine hours. Apparently found in a scrap yard having been used for standby power generation in a hospital..

One of these engines has gone into D7076 to replace the MD655 engine borrowed from D1041. It's amazing even now whats still kicking around out there!

If I remember correctly a Maybach MD655 was in use to drive a car crusher in Jersey some time back. I believe quite a few ex BR Maybachs were bought for standby power generation (1500 rpm + 4 pole alternator = 50Hz AC output) but how many still survive is anyones guess.

It is, yes. The engine they're using is the very last 9-cyl unit extant, iirc

Yeah, they apparently are ex Hymek engines. One wonders whats the future for their MTU engine that basically an MD870 rated at silly BHP.

Not just the engine! They also had an ex-loco radiator group. Both items were bought by the WLA in 1984.

If a replica of one of the LMS diesels is built, surely for the sake authenticity a second replica should be built to go with it, since 10000 and 10001 spent much of their lives coupled together as a pair!!!

But seriously, if a replica is built, I think it should be numbered 10002.

We shall be having a first meeting at the NYMR's diesel gala on the 17th September. What hopes to plug one of the top 5 historical events in British Railway history (you can dispute this according to your own historical mind set, interesting what different people would rate?) would warmly welcome anyone who wants to actively be involved. Exciting developments are already afoot, more news when things official.
We would hope to tap into a different group of donors, rather than detract from other very worthy preservation projects.
    Dave.
