I stand corrected! I always thought oil absorbed water and became emulsified. On thinking through it is probably contaminated oil that absorbs water?

I think you need a mixing mechanism to create an emulsion.

Yes I think you're correct viz car engine oil contaminated by leaky head joint..........the oil is being churned around

You seem to be getting a little confused. Remember, STEAM oil is designed to mix with water, to provide correct lubrication. This can easily be seem on poorly maintained engines with leaky piston gland packings.

When oil and water are vigorously mixed you get that light coloured emulsion, which is just water oil and air. So although oil and water can be mixed, it's only a physical mix, not a chemical combination.

Perhaps now that Britannia is on the move, 6100 will be next on the list.

Pete Watermans latest blog post suggest that 60009 is next on the list.

It's sad that the boiler ticket on 6100 continues to ebb away. Will they go for another ten year one when they finally get her out on the ML and touring the Heritage lines or go on with the time they have left on it? I've forgotten when it began now!

I think 6100's ticket dates from early 2009, I seem to remember March 2009 as one of the first outings?

I know its a funny old thing? Is there some sort of insurance issue they are waiting on or something causing serious delays in the supply chain of replacement parts - seems odd that her owners trust are (I assume) not short of a bob or two but seem happy for her to sit there with the ticket ticking away.

I just wonder as LNWR seem only to be able to work on a single project at a time why they havent taken her elsewhere?

At the risk of winding the clock back 18 months .....

Aren't Bressingham as part of the HLF grant, supposed to deliver a mainline registered Loco before the new trust can 'take delivery' ?

Jan 2008, same week as 46115.

Since then it had two outings...

West Somerset Gala and Steam Steel and Stars2 at Llangollen in 2009.

June's Steam Railway reports that 6100's boiler will be lifted allow a thorough inspection of the rolling chassis and valve gear, and a new 10 year ticket will be sought.

I know he's getting paid for the work, but Pete Waterman isn't getting paid enough for the overall hassle of Royal Scot. He and his team have my sincere sympathies, however if anyone can get that locomotive to run, he and his team can.

So this is - what, three years after being originally released for traffic by Southall, and still as yet to turn a wheel on the mainline?

anyone who was concerned with the original restoration care to comment ? its very telling that crewe would appear to not trust the standard of the work carried out at Southall when you look at the extent of the re work needed just how much work was done at southall , so where did the money go to ?? mrrs Kenniton and Ward care to explain? if it was spent on the engine you were done i still think that there is a case that needs examination even if just to put the record straight
how much has Crewe had to spend so far?

Are you suggesting that Mrs Kenniton and Mrs Ward (if they even exist) may have spent all of the HLF's money? I wonder what on...;)
