Just checked the photo on Post #166 and if it is Bittern as 4464, why has it got 4492 on the front?

If you'd followed the last several messages you would have read that it will be running as 4492 Dominion Of New Zealand.

Top marks to all who have done the work on her - it does look absolutely stunning! The mirror job looks fab, trying to fit the air pipes etc onto the front must have being a challenge in itself!

This must be the most eagerly awaited paint job since Leonardo da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa.
Roll on Saturday when hopefully some photo's appear on the forum of her in her full glory. And don't forget this will be an A4 as Sir Nigel Gresley intended....fully streamlined.

That is actually 60010 Dominion of Canada. Dwight D Eisenhower is 60008 and from pictures is in a better condition.

And to add, 60008 is the one at Green bay, USA. 60010 & LBSCR Terrier 'Waddon' are in Canada.

I've visited 60008 (Dwight) and she is very well looked after in the main exhibition hall in her Wisconsin home.

In many ways this will be a "Super A4" as it will have the improved front end fitted to 5(?) A4s in LNER days and to the rest of the class in BR days and the modified/improved middle big end fitted also in BR days but retaining the full external streamlining. Roll on Saturday. She will be speeding along barely a mile from my front door. :)

You lucky so & so !

I'm going to have to wait until goes out of either Euston or Paddington, but as she's going to be in this guise for three years whats the rush?

Born, bred and lived all my life within spitting distance of the ECML. My first memory of travelling behind steam was with 60014 and it doesn't get much better than that. So if the nice people who have given me 4492 to drool over can find their way clear to turning her out
as 2509 in the future, I'll be forever indebted to them.
