Maybe I'm reading too much into it?

I quote: "Also running from the home fleet will be GWR 3850 and LMS 3F 47406".

Typo, or have I missed something?

They're not the only ones to have an interesting interpretation of "home based fleet", although the example I'm trying to remember eludes me! As a sideline, how should the NYMR deal with Ian Riley's black 5s? They're on the NYMR several times a year and have been (45407, at least) for years now, and probably run more there than at their nominal home base on the ELR! - so are they home based or visitors?

Still haven't remembered my other example, but the more I think about it the more I have an inkling that it was the GCR again - possibly Pitchford Hall. Is that based there now or is it going to return to Tyseley?

I BELIEVE Pitchford is based there now, though I'm sure 63601 will be along to correct me if I'm wrong .

Irrespective of typos etc. I'll be there for a bimble on the auto train.

I believe your right. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Pitchford Hall was now based there. Probably in SR to be honest.

No 3850 however is owned by Dinmore Manor Locomotive Ltd who are themselves based on the West Somerset. I would find it hard to believe that No 3850 was to be based anywhere else for longer than a short term loan.

well i suppose my bank is in devon but i live in cheshire. i suppose its home base is where ever the owners want it. 8624 is based at ecclesbourne railway but from what i have been told won't spend all.its time there. i presume you get more money visiting railways for the next overhaul etc

Thats definatly true enough. If the GCR are paying a decent amount for it fair enough. Also, my original thought was that most of the volunteers would be in the wrong place, but Loughborough doesn't exactly struggle with that.

I still think 3850 would return to WSR before the summer season as otherwise they would probably have to hire another one in to cover for it. But you never know these days. Stranger things have happened.

As a DMLL shareholder, I'm not aware of any plans for 3850 to be based anywhere else than the WSR.

More to the point, you get more money for the next overhaul by having the loco working than not. The WSR doesn't run any services between New Year and half term, and 3850 would have got little use if any until Easter. Running the loco at the GCR, especially with all of the photo-charters that have been run with it, makes good financial sense.

I'm pretty sure the the original line at the top of the thread 'from the home-based fleet' is a typo. I seem to remember reading on the weekly GCR newsletter that 3850 was staying until sometime in March.

I'm sure that the Pitchford Hall group have now confirmed (possibly on this group) that their loco is now GCR-based.

By the way, 63601's ticket is indeed up next year, which will also be the loco's 100's birthday. Expect it to be the centre of some celebrations but there has been no word (yet) on what it's future is after that.

Presume the future would be either overhaul or back to the NRM for display? Is there actually room for it at either the NRM or Shildon though? Discuss.
