    Evening everyone,

Forgive my ignorance, especially if this has already been answered, but I was watching Michael Portilo's "Great British Railway Journeys" on iPlayer. In the Llandudno to Porthmadoc epsiode (23:03 in), it shows an historic shot of a double Fairlie carrying "Taliesen" nameplates.

Had a double take and wondered when this happened, and what the actual/modern identity of the loco is, as I thought Taliesen was only carried by the single Fairlie?

    Many thanks,

    Toby

Taliesin was the Festiniog Railway's Single Fairlie but the name was transferred to the Double Fairlie, Livingston Thompson in the 1930s. LT is in the NRM now.

Moel Tryfan was the original single Fairlie, Taliesin was built a year later in 1876.

True, what I meant was that it was the FR's single fairlie, I'll edit my post.

Never. They've been far more useful steering Linda and Blanche about than they ever were under that thing :).

For some pictures of the double Fairlie 'Taliesin' in 1960, see :

She (he, it?) became 'Earl of Merioneth' in 1961 :

The original name, 'Livingston Thompson', was restored when she went to York :

Just to add to the confusion, here is the current 'Earl of Merioneth'!
