As you all are probably aware Clun is at present being overhauled, and on this thread I'll try to give you updates on a 'as and when' basis.
So far, the tender tank was lifted from its frames some time ago and work needed on the tender frames is almost complete.
The tender wheels were inspected and the tyres were found to be in good order, the axles have been tested and no problems found.
The boiler was lifted from the frames a couple of weeks ago and inspections of both are being carried out.
A complete set of new tyres for the driving and bogie wheels have been ordered and it's hoped that they will be fitted in the early autumn.
As I said I'll update this thread whenever there's significant progress to report.
And now for the begging bit.:) http://www.tyseleylocoworks.co.uk/tlw/7029_appeal.htm

Kevin has asked to update this thread in his absence.

The tender is almost back together - we did a lot of work on the axle-boxes and generally cleaned and re-painted the frames and components. The drag boxes also needed quite a lot of work. T

The tender tank required a whole new floor - the floor has arrived and has been cut - it just needs to be welded/riveted (where appropriate).

As for the loco - we are now starting to dismantle the motion. There is going to be quite a lot of re-metaling required, with some new parts required. Remember, Clun ran pretty much from the end of steam until a few years ago, so it is not at all surprising that she needs work.

The boiler was de-tubed a while ago. The stays and foundation ring all need to be replaced, but this is not anything we didn't know. We have completed Kinlet Hall's boiler and are nearly finished re-tubing Lizzie, so Clun's will be next!

Any donations you have given in the past are greatly appreciated. If you are a fun of Clun, and have a little more to give, now would be a great time! We are about to launch an appeal for people to buy a tube each! More to come!

    Thanks again for your support.

    Tyseley Loco Works!

Thanks for the update, sounds like you are keeping an impressive pace up! Have donated to Clun in the past and may well do again dependent upon my financial position (modern life doesn't come cheap :( ) Looking forward to booking a place on 5043 + 7029 double header, whenever that might be!

    Another update from Tyseley....

We dropped the wheels out of the frames last week. They will soon be off to get new tires fitted - ouch! Takes a big lump out of the budget.

The frames are being stripped and cleaned as we speak, thanks to Paul!

We also found we need to do a little bit more work on the bottom-end brasses than was anticipated. Shouldn't cause too many delays!

There are a couple of pics on facebook if you care to look - http://tinyurl.com/6h5ao5d

As she couldnt make the Moor St reopening, perhaps the unveiling ceremony for Paddington's Span 4 refurbishment would make a suitable alternative? A GWR loco or two sat on the blocks would be highly appropriate.

After seeing her in so many bits today, it is amazing to think she will ever go back together! Talk about a big jigsaw puzzle!

"anyone know where this bit goes?" lol

Seriously, everything is going according to plan.

Next big steps are the boiler and fitting the tires......

The tyres have been made in South Africa. I can't off hand remember the name of the company.
No doubt when Ben comes on next he will have the info.
And by the way they cost one heck of a lot of money, I'm not at liberty to say on here exactly how much but it was several thousands of pounds.

I apologise on Ben's behalf for his spelling, but he spent a few years living with our American Cousins and I'm sorry to say he has picked up some of their bad practices with the English language. :usa:

Do the tyres from SA arrive at Tyseley as raw forgings or pre machined Ben ?

The tyres are rough machined in SA.

They have to be, as I assume they will be assessed for cracks (x-rayed). I think the supplier is Ringrollers, a subsidiary of Dorbyl Industries as I commisioned some of the machine tools there some years ago.
