Scheduled work? Just curious because it only seems to have been in traffic a very short time since overhaul...

Tasty line-up for the gala though - will be keen to attend if work and other things fall into place.

It's been in traffic about 5 years and, this year especially, it has been thrashed because of an acute shortage of east lancs motive power, again. The valve timings are off, there's problems with the cylinders and I don't think the firebox is in pretty good nick either. 2011 will see a relief small loco deputizing from about April and several bigger locos manning the harder duties. Heres to Sapper, 80080, 13065 and 45337

Read on the ELR unofficial forum that 73129 and 80080 will arrive week commencing 17th January.

According to the SVRA Forum 80080 has landed on SVR metals. Seeems strange given it's due at the ELR so soon. Anyone know why 80080 is currently at the SVR, and not the ELR?

I read a while back that 80080 was due to visit the SVR during 2011 for a few months, but then more recently I read it was going to ELR for the bulk of the 2011 season. Obviously it can't do both and with it seeming a definate for the ELR gala it seems very strange why it has now arrived at the SVR. More so because the SVR is now effectively between main operating seasons and so a visit of 'any' loco right at this moment does't make mush sense!

Maybe it's a very brief visit for some work to be undertaken on the loco prior to going to the ELR?

There is mention of an early morning freight/van train with the Std 4 tank on the East Lancs forum. Hopefully there will be a different engine each morning for a bit of variety and the freight is certainly the reason I will make the effort to travel up north. Those that were there for the Jinty and 4F about five years ago will never forget how good Burrs can be.

It would be nice if the freight can not run throughout the day as has happened in the past. I am sure paths are an issue but a run to Heywood with the south facing Black 5 would be great.

Looking to make this my first trip up to the ELR. It certainly would be nice to see a freight run during the day.

Can anyone direct me from Manchester Pic station to Bury ELR station using the tram? How do you pay for a tram too, is it like a bus where when you get on you pay, or pay before you get on? I've never used a tram before so sorry if these seems a stupid question. Also how long does it take roughly?

Follow the Metrolink signs to the tram station, pay at the machine and board :). Station to station I'd allow an hour, I've managed it in under 45 mins before, but only just! From Bury Metrolink station, come out parallel with the bus station, and turn right, towards the shops. Follow this road until you reach a crossroads, and turn left. Follow this road until you reach a hill and see the ELR station on your left.

Unless they turn it somehow before next weekend 44871 is tender first to Rawtenstall, interesting to see which way the visitors will face.

ELR advise that 46443 frrom Severn Valley will replace 80080 at January gala this coming weekend. Because of loco change t/t should be available on ELR web-site Tues/Wed
